Dear Marvel writers who decided to make Captain America a "secret hydra operative",
First off, how rude. Captain America was created in 1941 around the middle of World War 2. He was created as an advocate for fighting against the German's and the people who sought to control the countries of the world through communism. He was created before Marvel comics was even Marvel Comics. At the time they were Timely Comics, and on their way to becoming something bigger. Cap was created as the alter ego of Steve Rogers, the son of Irish immigrants who lived in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He was certainly not the son of an abusive, alcoholic man you have now deemed him to be as his father died when he was a child as did his mother. He was not a Hydra supporter.
In fact, Captain America was created by two men who despised the way the Nazi's thought and was created as a purely political character. He was created to oppose the people who claimed to want to make the world a better place. In fact, the very first issue of Captain America showed him socking old Hitler on the jaw. These comics caused these men to get hate mail, and fan mail. Nonetheless, Captain America was not created to have always been a secret Hydra supporter you want him to be.
No, Captain America and Steve Rogers aren't real, but the ideals that Hydra stands for are and the ideals that Steve Rogers stands for are real. The Nazis were real. The Holocaust happened and you cannot change that.
Imagine what you're doing to this character from the eyes of someone who lived during the time of World War II or a person that still lives who was a holocaust victim. Just imagine what would you think if someone created to fight against your prisoners and rivals was turned into one of them? What happens when Captain America no longer stands for Freedom, and America being a great nation that absolutely believes in the freedom of everyone? What happens when a internationally known character embraces ideals that killed over 60 million people around the world?
How can you turn your back on these things? For shock factor? Shock factor is not a good enough reason to make Steve Rogers/Captain America a secret agent of Hydra all along. There is no link back in all 75 years of comics. There is a man fighting for freedom and against oppressors like Hydra.
You may be the writers of this comic, but that doesn't give you this right. Maybe it's not for shock factor. Maybe it's just a want to play with the character in a new situation, but either way it isn't a good choice. It shows sympathy for the beliefs of Hydra and the Nazis and that isn't okay.
Sincerely,
Your Angered fans.
P.S. Bucky Barnes didn't get tortured for decades by Hydra to be betrayed by his best friend like this.
