A Letter To My Parents As I Come Home From College For The Summer

Dear Parents,

Hello! Remember me?? I am your child that has been at school the past 10 months! Whether I would verbally admit it, I am super excited to be back home. As much as I do enjoy being on my own at school, nothing quite beats the feeling being back in the place you feel most comfortable surrounded by the ones you love. I would be lying if I said that I haven’t changed this past year because I have, a lot. I have taken on a new major, stepped outside my comfort zone numerous times and have gained more perspective on life than ever before. Before coming home, here is a heads up for you two…

Me being home will be a transition for both of us!

Neither of us will be used to having each other around 24/7. I am not used to coming home to my parents being there with me nor are you used to seeing me every day either… this shall be fun! I am just messing. I do believe that it will take a few days to get used to having everyone home at the same time. Being gone three-quarters of the year is a long time especially when I come home for three months straight. I promise to be patient if you can do the same. Regardless, I am very excited to spend the summer with the family!

I am still looking to take on my own independence

As much as you two don’t want to believe it, I am not your little girl anymore. Crazy enough, I am now a 20-year old adult trying to search for her place in this crazy world. I hope you are willing to understand that. As I do know that I can’t do some things I am used to doing at school back at home, I do hope you allow me to still be independent. At school, I have gotten in the habit of not having a curfew, making a lot of my own decisions and of course adding in some fun. As I promise not to be too crazy at home, I do hope you understand and accept me doing things on my own that you aren’t used to seeing me do.

I plan on working…. A LOT

Ideally, I wish I could spend the next 3 months lounging around, spending time with the family and friends and not having a care in the world… WRONG! Your girl here is a broke college student in need of money! Just think, the more I work, the less I will ask you guys!

As well as completing school work

Something new not only for you guys but for me too is completing summer classes this summer! Trust me, I am not the biggest fan of the idea either but in the long run, cranking out GenEds now is the best plan!

I truly am looking forward to spending the summer at home

As much as I always mess around with you guys about never coming home again, words can’t describe my emotions toward spending some time with you two, the rest of the family and friends. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love college, the city, and the people I have created great relationships and friendships with. But no matter how old or independent I become, the feeling of coming home to family is unbeatable. Let the countdown begin!

Thank you both for everything, I love you!

This year has been of helluva roller coaster ride but I could not have survived it without you two. Every time I need someone to vent to, cry to, laugh with, or just someone to tell me everything was going to be okay, you guys were the ones I could count on for exactly that. You two have always supported me in everything I have chosen to do and I cannot thank you enough. You two are the best parents any kid could ask for. Thanks for always allowing me to chase after me dreams. I love you guys to the moon and back.

Sincerely,

Your favorite college student

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
