Dear Reader,
We all know that the mall can be a frustrating place for both parties, employees and shoppers alike. However, straight from a mall employee herself, here are some mall do's and don'ts for all shoppers alike!
Do's
1. Do be understanding of crowds at stores, especially on a weekend
It’s frustrating for the employees to deal with big crowds and we understand that you’re frustrated too.
2. Do say goodbye to an employee if they were helping you
Simply walking away after an employee has been helping you is both rude and weird.
3. Do be friendly
Or a little friendly at least. We’ve all had long days and I’m sure there’s other places we’d both rather be
4. Do understand our store policies
We’re solely employees and have nothing to do with the policies. We’re just doing our jobs.
5. Do realize everything that working at the mall entails
We have to deal with rude customers daily- along with the crowd and hustle of the mall
Don’ts
1. Don't try to barter with us
The sticker price is final and that’s how all stores work
2. Don't leave your kids
This is my workplace just as you have your own. I do not want to watch your kids but seeing you walk away sends a need to keep an eye out rushing over me.
3. Don’t try coming into the store five minutes before closing
This is the person you do NOT want to be. We have places to be and other work to do, but we can’t leave until our final customers have let. I beg/tell/ask/urge you to not be this guy.
4. Don’t try coming into the store five minutes before closing
I repeat this again because it is so vitally important.
5. Don’t belittle/yell at me
I am doing my job to the best of my abilities. Think about all of the people a mall employee has to deal with. People are out of this world- cut us some slack.
6. Don’t leave your food/drinks in the store/on counters
For a fact there are trash cans within walking distance. I also know for a fact that you will be passing one once you leave the store. Please, keep your trash and throw it away yourself.
7. Respect those working at kiosks during closing time
Kiosks don’t have gates to lower that signal closing time. Please respect the tarps being drawn and lights being turned off. It’s our only ways to signal our closing, respect that.
8. Don’t let your kids lick the windows or counters
This should just be a given.
