Dear Taylor Swift,
A lot of people haven't been saying very nice things to or about you lately. The world was being so kind to you, applauding you for the success you've had since "1989" came out. Everyone, fans and non-fans alike, was respecting you.
But then, you and Calvin Harris ended your relationship. And drama ensued. The media was quick to write headlines about how malicious you were, and users on Twitter found it easy to mock you. And it broke my heart. And the hearts of all of your fans.
Because the truth is, the world simply just wants to dislike you. It took 10 years for most people to find something to respect you about and that was only because you switched genres and released music that apparently appealed to the masses. But they don't realize that people loved you when you were country. That we supported you when you did decide to switch genres. Because we understood that you knew this was the right move for you and your career.
People were singing along to your songs and using your lyrics for the perfect Instagram caption. Yet there were also people still mocking you for the classic "she'll only date you to write a song about you." But they don't realize that people have been identifying with your lyrics since the very beginning. Those lyrics have saved people. Made people feel like they weren't alone in what they were going through. But those lyrics were still mocked.
Taylor, I am writing to let you know that your fanbase loves and appreciates you. We thank you for all that you have done for us in the past 10 years. Because even as more and more of the world wanted to find something to dislike about you, we were only loving you more and more.
Your music was an escape for us. We could dance along to your songs by ourselves in our bedrooms. Your concerts were therapy sessions for us. We could dance and sing along with you and forget about everything else for a couple of hours. You have brought so many of us friendships that we will keep forever.
Taylor, I hope you know that we just want you to be happy. There are countless stories in which you have reached out to fans personally and told them that you hope they have great days. That they know that you love them. We hope that you are doing well, though. We hope you take time for yourself. To relax. To destress. We hope that you have genuinely good times with your friends. And your family. There is a lot of anger and meanness aimed toward you, but Taylor... There is so much more love and joy.
This time of year usually sees livestreams and album announcements and new singles. But you told us that you wanted to take a break. That you needed a break to be a 20-something. And it's weird that we're not getting any new music from you, but know that we hope this break brings you what you need. Clarity. Self-love. Happiness. Whatever your heart and mind may need.
Know that you are truly loved, Taylor. We only want the best for you. And you are much stronger than you may feel at times. Cheering for you.
Sincerely,
Your loyal Swifties
