There are way too many lists (Buzzfeed, 7 Signs, Odyssey, etc) on the Internet supposedly giving signs that you have met the "Grey's Anatomy"term for a very close friend: "your person." As someone who has one of the best (subjectively the best) persons around, I have combed through too many of them to find one to share over social media. The problem is, none of them really hit the mark.
One’s number 4 on the list is very relatable, while numbers 5 and 6 are completely wrong, another’s 7 and 8 work, but not 1 and 2; they all have issues. This is to my person—and for all of you to share with all your people too:
I want you to know you’re more to me than a list off social media
more than an ABC drama’s nickname for a best friend
more than a panic attack phone call at 3,4,5 in the morning
more than all of that
you read my thoughts as if my mind is a novel that you memorized
sometimes—most of the time—I think you can
you read my emotions better than I do
we are way past the need to ask "are you OK?"
because you already know
You can tell my actual "omg that's hilarious"
vs
my "omg I’m freaking out, but trying to cover it up with laughing"
and are the first to sort out the issue
You know my life story
from birth
to the awkward tweens
to the moment I was at my worst
to the time I was at my best
Whether you were physically there or not
You know the story as if you were
And honestly, the times you weren’t there
probably would have been better if you were
You know my "text talk"
like when you should haul ass and get to wherever I am
and when you should go grab some coffee first
Thank you
Thank you for having my back, no my soul
always
Thank you for your ever present encouragement
the "yes you can do that"s
and the "do not worry"s
and the "don’t listen to them"s
because I do hear
and they do help
Thank you for being my person
I am
eternally
