Low Maintenance Friends

Everyone has those friends that you can catch up with no matter how much time has passed

Everyone has what I like to call the Low Maintenance Friend. These are the friends that you've had for so long, maybe from a childhood sports team or sleep away camp, that you don't feel the need to talk to every single day to maintain the friendship. They are the friends that you have that might check up on you every once in a while to see how life is going, but won't text or call or snapchat you every day to see exactly what you've done for the day. Although you don't talk to this friend all that often, you know if you're ever in a tough spot you can turn to them for anything that you may need.

Going away to college and beyond will especially help you to see who your Low Maintenance Friends are. After being with the same people every day in high school, you fall into a pattern of hanging out with the different people that you talked to every day. In going to college I realized that there are some people, my close friends, that I still talk to on a regular basis whether I see them, text them, call them, snap chat them, or anything else. There are the people that I talk to on holidays with a passing greeting through text messages like "Merry Christmas!" or "Happy New Year!" or "Happy Independence Day!" Then there are the Low Maintenance Friends, the people that will get that holiday text, but also get a text once a month or every other month saying something along the lines of, "Hey, it's been a while. How's life?"

The Low Maintenance Friend is the friend that you can send that "hey what's up?" text to, talk for a little and it's like you've picked back up right where you had left off the last time you talked. You don't need to chat every day but you'll always be there for them.
To my Low Maintenance Friends, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for always being there when I need you. Thank you for staying my friend after all these years. Thank you for being so easy to talk to, and thank you for being so low maintenance. Just know that even if we haven't talked in a while, I'm still thinking about you and I hope that everything in your life is going just the way that you want it, I'll talk to you soon.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
