We’re the largest public research university in the state of Virginia. We have over 20,000 students. Our undergraduate programs are nationally recognized. Our campus is home to the East Coast’s largest observatory tower, second only to NASA’s. The hard copy resources in our newly renovated Fenwick Library stretch over 25 miles, and as a student body, we speak over 100 languages. Our credentials are enough to draw tens of thousands of applicants each semester, but there is something special about being a Patriot.

In the fall, you can expect to see the entire campus bursting with color, with students playing Frisbee and slack-lining on the quad. Tons of students flock to The Rathskeller in SUB 1 for drinks and appetizers while they watch NFL games from the comfort of campus, but if that doesn't appeal to you, you can always catch a movie at our student center's cinema.

Our campus is breathtaking in its modernity, but it’s full of tradition too. Students rub our beloved George Mason Statue’s toe for good luck, and avoid stepping on Mason’s Plaque at all costs. In the spring, you’ll find that our Homecoming tailgate will be one of your favorite events of the semester, and at the end of the year, you’ll see students celebrating the end of finals by running through the fountains in front of the Johnson Center.

Mason has been ranked consecutively in the top five universities in the country for diversity, and we love to show it. Students come from all over the world to become Patriots, and we celebrate them each year with International Week. You’ll find flags from 60 different countries hanging in the Johnson Center, foods from dozens of countries in the dining halls, as well as students trying to learn from one another each and every day. At Mason, we have an entire building dedicated to global education, where you’ll find tons of students celebrating their differences in culture and their similarities as Patriots.

On top of our cultural diversity, Mason also offers hundreds of ways to get involved on campus. Consider joining a Greek letter organization, or, if that's not your thing, a club sport. Mason offers club baseball, football, and basketball teams, just to name a few, and hundreds of students participate each semester. If athletics aren't for you, join the Debate Team, Forensics, or the Mason Comedy Club. Audition for a play, join a Bible study group through campus ministries, or start a club of your own, the possibilities are endless. Whatever you choose, you'll meet your friends for life at Mason.

My time at Mason has given me incredible relationships, memories, and life experiences that I will take with me beyond graduation. By becoming a Patriot, I've learned so much about what it means to be a leader, and what it's like to be part of something so much bigger than myself. Every Patriot will tell you the same thing. Make the best decision of your life and choose Mason.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
