I was the student who got senioritis their freshman year of high school. I couldn't wait to get out. As each year flew by, I looked forward to the next. When my senior year finally came around, it never hit me that this was my last year. I remember everyone crying at band camp because it was our last one, but it didn't hit me until the next day. I was in the car going somewhere and out of nowhere I started bawling because I was never going to be there again.
I took advantage of my senior year. I went to all the pep rallies (no matter how stupid they were) and went to every dance that I could. I went to coney after football games with my friends and had sleepovers on the weekend. I tried to live it up as much as I possibly could.
When the last day of school rolled around, I wasn't ready. I didn't want to leave my friends. I didn't want to create new bonds with teachers that I had been making over the last four years. I didn't want to make all of these decisions I wasn't ready for.
Graduation comes up quick. As I was standing in front of my mirror putting on that white gown, all I could imagine was myself standing at the bus stop with my backpack on, pink and purple plaid skirt, purple top, and two missing front teeth. I didn't feel old enough to be graduating high school and moving on to the rest of my life.
This last month will fly by, if the whole year before already hasn't. Don’t miss out on your last events. Don't take for granted what time you have left. Enjoy it. Enjoy yourself.
Go. Go to the pep rallies, dances, and sleepovers with your friends. Don’t skip prom because you will be dateless in a group of friends. Just go. Go to the events even if you think they are going to be stupid. Go to your senior dinner and laugh at every embarrassing picture that was taken from your freshman year. One year from now, when you look back, you will regret everything you miss. Spend time with your friends, and make plans with the ones going out of state to school. Don't let your friendships dwindle away because you aren't going to see someone in the hallways anymore. Don’t spend the last month of your senior year doing nothing, because a year from now, you’ll be regretting every ‘no’ you said.
