When I first applied to be a resident advisor at Florida Southern College, Joseph-Reynolds Hall was on the top of my preference list. Of course, when I found out I had actually been given the opportunity to serve as a freshman resident advisor in my first choice residence hall, I practically cried! A whole year has passed since the halls began bustling with the new freshman class and I’ve met so many amazing girls along the way! Here’s a letter to the wonderful girls of Joseph-Reynolds Hall:
Dear JR Girls,
Congratulations! In a few short weeks your freshman year will come to a close and you will no longer be the new girls on campus! I remember the first day of orientation, when you girls moved into Joseph-Reynolds Hall with eager hearts and arms filled with more dorm items than you could ever fit in your rooms. It didn’t take long for Joseph-Reynolds Hall to become everyone’s home away from home and you each found your place in our community. Next year, you will all go your separate ways and Joseph-Reynolds will no longer be your home base. Before you each go further in your college years, I just wanted to thank you for making this year truly special!
Thank you for the late night talks on the sitting area couches and the impromptu movie nights where we all stuff our faces with desserts and popcorn. Thank you for the warm smiles and open doors that I see as I walk through the halls and for being some of the loudest and craziest girls I’ve ever met! Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever met a crazier group of individuals than you ladies! Most importantly, thank you for giving each other something invaluable—unconditional love. You girls have stood by each other in your darkest times and made sure that everyone in our hall feels welcomed and accepted. It has been a privilege to witness the power of strong friendships and fellowship.
The best kind of friendships are fierce lady friendships, where you aggressively believe in one another and know the other deserves the world. Even though you girls may not see each other next year as often as you normally do; promise me that you will always keep the friendships you’ve made in our hall dear to your heart. And no matter what, never lose sight of how special you are and how much you matter to our Florida Southern College community. You make FSC a brighter place!
Freshman year was never meant to last forever, but the memories you’ve made sure will! Keep shining, laughing, and spreading your light! Most importantly, always remember that your life here in college is a journey not a destination, so once you feel like you’ve arrived at paradise, look forward in anticipation for the wonders that are to come!
I love each and every one of you ladies always and forever.
Love,
Your fellow JR Girl
