To the girl who wants his attention,
It's not on purpose. You may not even realize it. But, subconsciously, you change your ways. You change the way you do things to get his attention because you think you need it. You think you need someone to show you love and affection so that you can feel worthy. And the only way to do that is to act differently. To act in such a way that he will notice you, apart from all the other girls, and so that you will stand out. You may play hard to get, you may be loud and obnoxious, or you may test your limits and do the extreme, just so he will notice. Just so he will know your name, just so that he will remember you. But what exactly is he remembering you for? He's remembering you for something you're not.
You want his attention, so you act like a spoiled brat. You make him think he isn't good enough, so that he will try harder. You leave him wanting more, and you leave him wondering why. But what you're actually doing is lowering his self-esteem. You're bringing yourself up just so you can push him down, just so you can feel like the conqueror. But you're not conquering. You're controlling. Forcing him to run to you will never make him want you. It'll make him want the challenge.
Your voice gets a little louder, and your comments get a little ditzier. You think that he thinks it's cute when you don't know what you're talking about. You like it when he corrects you. You throw in a few extra curse words, too. And you make sure he notices your unnatural, cackling laugh. If he notices it, he notices that you don't know what you are talking about, and he notices that your laugh does sound unnatural. And he also notices that you have a potty mouth. What exactly is the point of that? Yes, he notices, but he notices because it's hard not to. He notices because you force him to.
Maybe if you do something extremely crazy, you'll get his attention. Take a few extra drinks so he doesn't think you're a lightweight. Stay out even longer than him so he thinks you're fun. But that extra drink sends you running to the bathroom with your roommate holding your hair. And that extra hour out causes you to oversleep and miss your test. And odds are, he won't even remember your name the next morning.
He doesn't want to give you his attention. He wants to give you his time. He wants to get to know you, not what you think he wants to know. To the girl who wants his attention, don't. I was you once. Be true to yourself before you're true to a man.
