Letter From The Future To Myself At 16

Dear Madison,

It’s you here.. Well you from the future. I am writing this letter so you can take a chill pill and know that everything will be just fine. I know right about now you are dealing with the worst girl drama of all time. Now I don’t know if this will make you feel better or worse but I can tell you now, from experience, it will never go away. Girl drama forever! High school is the breeding grounds for insecurities of every kind. Try to keep in mind that most of your peers are most likely going through something that you don’t know about. Be aware of this! Be as positive and friendly as possible even if you don’t receive the same kindness back. Listen to mom and “always take the high road." This phrase will be said over and over again and just listen to it! Moms are always right! All this being said you need to be who you are and stop focusing on the bull S*&! Don’t let anyone make you feel like you aren’t good enough because you are! You’re going places!

Soon enough you are going to have to start studying for the SATs and the ACTs. Mom is going to send you to a tutor, that’s obvious. Just go and don’t make a big stink about it, you can hang with Christa and the girls later. Fro-yo can wait! And thanks to your trusty mother your going to do great on those tests… Well good enough to get you into college! Yayyy! Your going to college! I know high school can be stressful but just try and enjoy it as much as possible. I know you hear it all the time but it flies by. Before you know it you’ll be graduated and heading off to college. You and all the friends you’ve grown up with since preschool will be heading in different directions. Yes, it is sad at first but the ones who are your true friends will stay in touch. I know you are dying to get out of Rockland County and you want to be on your own. This will change; you will come home on weekends and breaks and appreciate how awesome home is. All the things you take for granted now, you will beg for in just a few short years. Thank Mom for 1. Doing your laundry 2. Cooking an edible meal every night and 3. Caring about what you do on a daily basis. I know these three simple things may seem unimportant to you at the moment but listen to me say thank you!!! As soon as you go away to school you are on your own and you are going to miss Mom and Dad!

Finally, I want you to remember always remind those you love that you love them. The people that have your back now, will always have your back. Never forget family is everything, first and foremost the most important people in your life. As you do now, you will always go to your sisters for any small issue you have. Kiss there feet because they are getting you through life! And don’t get ticked off the little, minute things that mean nothing in the grand scheme of life. I know you are stubborn and set in your ways (you still are now.. but your working on it..shhhh!) but try and let loose. Most of the time nothing is that big of a deal to get your panties in a twist. Go commando and be free!

I think telling you all of this is going to take off some serious pressure. But don’t be lazy now! Remember everything I have said and take it with a grain of salt. Continue to work hard and you will be rewarded! You the bomb!!!

Love always, your one and only true self,

Madison

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
