To some amazing parents

Dear Mom and Dad,

Now that I'm out in the world on my own, I realize how tough the world really is. I have also come to the realization that I am tough enough to take on the world. But the only reason I am is because of you guys. You've raised me well, and have shown me how to be a person of good character. Growing up I never told you enough (not even now) how much I appreciate and love you both. You've shown and taught me so much. You've shown me how to be kind to others, how to be a hard worker, and most importantly to trust in God with everything.

Growing up I had a temper (and to this day every once in a while it likes to rear its ugly head). However, growing up with parents as amazing as you guys I learned how to be kind to others. Not everyone knows how to handle kindness, because they haven't been exposed to it very often. You guys have shown me though that everyone needs some kindness in their life, and that I should be that kindness in peoples lives and in the world. I've learned that being kind can go a long ways, and you don't know what others are going through. Everyone deserves kindness.

I have also learned how to be a hard and effective worker. You both are some of the most hard working people I know. Growing up I learned about being responsible, and working as hard as you can. In life if you want something you have to work for it, it wont just be handed to you. My parents worked their butts off because they wanted a good life for my siblings and I. This is one of the many reasons I admire them so much. They are some of the most kindest and hard working people you will ever meet.

However, the most important thing my parents have taught me is to trust in God for everything. I was raised in the church, and was always show that God know what's best and we should trust in His timing in all things. I watched my parents fallow Christ for so long I had to look and learn what He was all about. At the age of 14 I accepted Jesus as Lord and savior of my life. . My parents have and still continue to show me the love of God through the way they live their life. Daily I strive to love, trust, and serve God as the do.

I'm out in the world now, and it is tougher than I thought. But my parents raised me to be a person of good character, a hard worker, and to trust God in all things. With the way I was raised it is easier to take on the world. I never tell you guys how much I appreciate you, but I hope this helps a little bit. I admire you both so much.

Love,

Your grown daughter

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
