A Letter From My Drunk Self To My Sober Self
Leslie Porfeli

I just recently turned 21 and as a way to reflect I thought I would go ahead and share this letter that I wrote when I was drunk that night at my party.

Dear, sober me

I know you can have fun, but you need to loosen up some more. I mean like way more! The way you have fun is not even fun. I mean who goes anddd times themselves doing a word search puzzle. LIke, bruh! it's not even fancy like a crossword! Lame!

You got mad cool friends though. Much love and respect for the homies for shore. Did I jjust spell that wrong? Wow, just call me Haley (not real name). They were mad cool for showing up and supporting your birthday. I mean I do not think it was because you had free achol (I know I spelled that wrong too and no one underage had a drop!). It def has to be because you mad cool. I like that phrasage: Mad cool.

The grindage you had was good too (grindage is Pauly Shore for food). Someone snaked the last cookie, but it's whateves. Because you were munchin' on some mad grindage (Pauly Shore defined as: eating food). Apparently I turn into Pauly Shore and Lil' Wayne all atonce when I am drunk. Wheezy baby!

It was lit lit lit on fire! Someone had to call 9-1-1 because this nug (Pauly Shore for shawty) was burning up the dance floor. Speaking of Sean Kingston... What he been up too? I going to Google that. One sec....Yeah the search was inconclusive. What I can spell that drunk? Yet, I don't even know my last name (funny story). I still use yet when I'm drunk? Not drunk enough!

Tomorrow when people tell you stories of everything you did. I am going to give you advice now: deny, deny, deny! NO, we did not slap that guy, or his butt. The pictures on your phone tomorrow....just don't look at them. 'k? I mean we is not looking our best girl! You is beautiful and you need to tell that too yourself more instead of running around telling others how much they are (especially more intensified when drunk). Also, that lamp probably has no idea that you just call it skinny and that it needs to "eat more chicken," you do not work for any chicken place. Do not be a free ad!

Okay, I got to go because my girl sleep is callin's my name bruh! mad love for you!

Love, you when your drunk (heart) (heart) (heart)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
