A Letter From A Future Grand-Big To Her Little

Little,

Oh boy, it's the most wonderful time of the year. The anticipation and excitement of sorority big-little reveal is finally here. And as the soon-to-be grand-bigs stand and watch their little craft away and talk about how much they adore their newest future family member, there are some things you must all remember.

Although your excitement and happiness is contagious, your big has many thoughts running through her head currently.

1. Don't forget about her. Your big is realizing that she is getting old, her family is growing, and she's terrified. Not because of you or your future little by any means, but because she's not sure what the future may hold. It's a reality shock that the "real world" is going to be the next big step in her life. And she's just now realizing that her graduation date is creeping up sooner than she thought. The lunch dates, late-night study sessions, and weekends of fun in her college and sorority years are numbered. And she's just now realizing that she could be considered an "older member" in her sorority family. She's not ready for that, and she doesn't want to lose you. So as your excitement and thoughts revolve around your perfect new little, remember that those thoughts and unfortunately much more stressful ones are going through your big's mind.

2. She hopes you're ready. Just like her big did, it's now her time to let the little bird fly out of the nest. She just really hopes she taught you well enough. Little, understand there are going to be days you're going to have to get out of bed early on a chilly Sunday morning to drive your little one to the emergency room as she's sporting a lovely 110-degree fever (thank you, big). Understand there are days you're going to have to lecture her, days you're not going to be happy with her, and days where you will see her cry. And hopefully just like your big did, it's now time for you to be the adult in the family. Your big has trained you well and she's beyond excited to see her hard work pay off. It's time for you to be the inspiration and mentor to the little who looks up to you.

3. She loves you. No she's not jealous, worried, or upset right now, she just loves you too much to see you go. She wants to share the excitement with you because she's not ready to grow up. She wants to love your future little just as much as you love her. She wants her to be the perfect addition to the family. So share the memories with her. Reminisce about the old times with your big and share new ones with your big and future little because she loves you too much to stop making incredible memories.

So littles, don't forget about your bigs who are soon to be grand bigs. Because before you know it, your little will be taking a little. And you'll wonder where in the world the time went.

Love, your big (and soon-to-be grand-big of the most perfect grand-little)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
