Hello dad,

I'm wondering if you are reading this. It's been 9 years since you have been gone. That is exactly 1/2 of my life now. One thing that I can tell you, when you’re living is, time doesn't wait for anyone. “The world doesn’t need any of us. I’m sure that the world… the world doesn’t care who lives and who dies. It still keeps bringing days and nights, and time.” (Fruits Basket)

I had a whole new perspective on life after you left. You’re probably wondering what a 9 year-old could possibly come up with.

Well, I found out I had to grow up. At the time, I had to kiss my childhood goodbye. Part of my world fell apart when you passed away. Sometimes it amazes me how I survived it; when someone who was constantly in my life from day one disappears. I miss going to work, the playground, and Yankee games with you. I miss hearing your hearty laugh and seeing a smile that brightens up the whole room. I had to help raise Kate (younger sister). We had also just moved from the city to the suburbs. A lot of changes happened that summer.

I give advice to anyone who wants to not just survive in this world. To not let time beat them. To go through life in their own pace to learn and grow. Also to appreciate the little things in life. That’s what you taught me.

Anyway, nothing much has changed dramatically. Only that I have graduated from high school and Kate started high school. The same one you attended all those years ago. I have started college and had my first kiss. I am sad that you aren’t here to witness these mile stones. Especially being able to walk down with me in the aisle for my wedding.

But, I will always walk with the memories of you.

You will always be with me.

Forever and always,

your daughter Carolyn

“In peace may you leave the shore
In love may you find the next
Save passage on your travels
until our final journey to the ground
May we meet again”
-The 100

I made this a long time ago from my first manga/anime. The manga goes further in the story line with more characters. It is considered a shoo but the story line is very creative and the characters are well developed. Most of the pictures are from when Katsuya (Tohru the main character's father) passed away. That's not really a spoiler so do not worry.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
