A Letter To My Campers On The Last Day Of Camp

Who knew summer camp could turn into a learning experience?

I know that, for the most part, none of the kids will read this. That's OK, as long as my thoughts are out there.

I was only with you for a summer (10 weeks to be exact), but time means nothing when you're learning life lessons from working with children. For the most part, you guys would come in with a smile on your face every morning. You were ready for the day and ready for adventure. You were almost always up for every event and loved putting your helping hands to work.

The kindness you had for each other was a kindness that was so pure and innocent. With everything going on in the world, seeing you all interact may be one of the few things that kept my spirits up. You have a kindness that cannot be taught. You treat each other with more respect than some adults that I see. It amazes me that so much positivity can radiate out of such little bodies. I will always appreciate your ability to get over the small things and move on with life.

When someone was feeling down, you were right there to hold their hand. When someone spilled something, you were ready with paper towels to clean it up. When someone needed help walking from place to place, you were there to support them. You taught me the importance of giving something more than just material items. You taught me how to have patience with those around me and that's something I thought I'd never learn. The happiness and energy you brought into our classroom every day was enough to fill a life with joy. Of course, we all have our bad days; but, you would be right back to yourself the next day.

My intention is not to come home next summer, so it's upsetting that I only got to be with you all for such a short time. The lessons you taught me, though, will remain. I hope that I can spread that joy to those around me and teach people about acceptance of others. I feel as though you always learn the best life lessons from those who aren't necessarily in the best situations and that's important. You showed me not to let anything get me down because in the end, the most important thing is your outlook on life. As long as you stay positive, you can make your life into the best life it can be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
