To my brother,
I’m sure the minute you so much as read the title you’ll roll your eyes. I know this mainly because I know you hate sappy letters, but also because you’re six feet tall and I’m barely five feet. You may only be “almost 14,” as you never let me forget, but no matter what, you’ll always be my little brother.
I still remember it being nearly twelve years ago that we adopted you and brought you into our family. And boy, has it been a whirlwind. All I ever wanted was a brother and I am so blessed that it is you.
Thank you for always being...well...you. There is no one else I can imagine making videos in the weirdest voices with or waking up at 7 am on Christmas morning because we’re still little kids at heart. Thank you for always cheering me up. You have always been a little stoic and standoffish, but you wouldn’t be you without those qualities. Thank you for always looking up to me even when I’m probably the worst role model at times. Thank you for teaching me what it means to be not only a good sister, but a better person.
I’m sorry for sometimes yelling at you when you won’t stop asking me questions. I’m sorry for always being so protective of you. I’m sorry I used to hit you when you would bite me. I’m sorry I haven’t always been the best big sister to you and I wish I could take back every mean thing I have ever said or done to you.
I am so genuinely proud of the young man you have become. You are so independent and so well-accomplished for being in eighth grade. I wish I had the skill set you had. You’re such a genuine human being, filled with compassion, love and generosity. I am so thrilled that you are almost an Eagle Scout, and that you have a talent for theatre, and anything technology based.
When I get home this summer we’re going to hang out a lot. The summer before freshman year of high school is always a major growing period. Your life as you know it is going to change immensely. I can’t wait to drive around blasting Fall Out Boy and the Aladdin soundtrack on our way to the movies, or to the mall. I’m going to make sure you teach me how to build a fire, and I’ll teach you how to read music and wash your own clothes. I know I’ve missed you a lot while I’ve been away at school, and we definitely need to catch up.
Know that I love you more than anything else. You’re my brother, but you are my best friend. No matter where our live paths take us (and we both know you’re going to be a super-successful film producer one day), know that you always have a sister, confidant, and friend in me. You know where to find me, bud.
Love always,
Your big and annoying older sister who misses you more than you know.
