Carpe Motus Dance Company of the College of Saint Elizabeth got “in formation” Thursday night for a vigorous six and a half hour practice in full costume. Yes, heels and all!
The girls put together an amazing commercial expected to air during the intermission of their April 13th and 14th shows, but that is not all the girls have been preparing for.
“Dancing through the Decades,” (the title of their show) has been a constant every night practice for the girls since November. Since then, these lovely ladies have met religiously in the dance studio at 8pm to learn their challenging choreography for the big show, as well as other events such as Soul Fest and International Night.
In an interview with Vice President Destiny Henry, I inquired about how she manages her time while managing being an active dance and executive board member, as well as completing school work, and having a social life.
“I love what I do! Dance has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. I love these girls and all of the work and dedication they put into making this come together. We have become a family and we grow as a family," Henry said. "I still have time for friends and school work but when that becomes draining, dance is my escape from it all. It is my chance to express myself through my body and covey beautiful messages that I would not have been able to communicate with words alone.”
Destiny has such a good balance for everything however, next year she will be moving up as captain next year, but I have no fear that she will do great and continue to build up the dance team. She will also have the support of her executive team behind her providing insight and organization to keep things flowing smoothly.
The dance team is on the rise to doing bigger and better things. Voted "Club of the Year" by the International Intercultural Club, they are working hard to continue making a positive reputation for their team.
With time winding down, and the commercial in the editing process, these ladies continue to break a sweat on the dance floor to prepare for the final show in April.
