The new year inspires new goals and mindsets. For veterans and active military Help Heal Veterans provides an opportunity for a resolution to promote the improvement of mental health through the use of therapeutic craft therapy. The HHV craft kits aid in rehabilitation, designed to restore coordination and impaired motor skills, improve attention spans and concentration, and relieve symptoms of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other conditions. The kits are designed to give veterans a distraction from their physical and mental pain and allow them to live more in the present.

In 2018 HHV conducted a performance survey on how useful the kits were in easing the symptoms of multiple categories of diagnoses of which veterans may be suffering: Including physical pain, and cognitive behavior health, traumatic brain injury, and enhancing their overall quality of life. In total, 2,043 veterans responded to the survey, and the results were staggering!

• 94% said the kits helped them have a more positive outlook on life

• 81% said the kits helped improve their relationships with family and friends

• 89% said our kits helped relieve their pain. On average, there was a 39% drop in pain scale when using the kits

• 78% of respondents who had a physical injury or wound said our kits helped with their condition

Cognitive/Behavioral Health/Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

• 98% said the kits took their mind off of problems

• 97% of respondents with behavioral health issues (PTSD, depression, anxiety) said the kits helped them feel better an average of 7 on a scale of 10

• 75% of respondents with a history of TBI said the kits helped them

There is no better time than now to initiate healthy habits that will have longstanding benefits - beginning with improving mental health. Help Heal Veterans has numerous Community Based Arts & Crafts Centers that allow veterans to craft with a group to create comraderies under the direction of Craft Care Specialists. Locations are available on the HHV website. If the listed sites are not reachable, HHV provides an at-home craft kit delivery service. The eagerness of HHV's staff to make craft kits accessible to all veterans reflects their mission- to reach more veteran patients, often introducing them to the healing power of the arts for the very first time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
