Someone you used to know tries to reconnect with you, but you’re not so sure how you feel about it. Or maybe you don’t know if someone you’re currently friends with is a person you want in your life. Here are 3 reasons why it’s perfectly acceptable to let those people go.
1. He hurts you more than he helps you
When you think about his involvement in your life, you recall more unpleasant memories or situations than good times. Perhaps he didn’t intend to make things difficult on you, but your life isn’t any easier or more enjoyable. Maybe it wasn’t even his overall engagement that made things bad but one particular situation that changed your tune. This is okay! Reflection on the relationships in your life is a sign of growth and maturity. The ability to see who is helping you and who is hurting you is an vital key to maintaining happiness.
2. You realize you can’t trust her
This is important. If you realize that this person isn’t someone you wish to share details about yourself with, why keep her around? If she burned you once or twice before and you still allow her to into your life, be careful. Be completely certain she won’t act on past tendencies to hurt or damage your friendship in any way. If you think that she might spread gossip around or doesn’t show an interest in your general welfare, then it’s probably time to move on.
3. He doesn’t take the blame for his faults
He messed up, you both know this. Or he doesn’t know and refuses to acknowledge that he made a mistake. This is not okay. Ignoring his wrongdoings is a clear sign that you don’t need him as a friend. Whether he protests over allegations, turns the blame onto you, or rejects talking about something he did, it might be time to show him the door. These are signs of immaturity in him and creates frustration in your friendship. Move on.
If someone you know demonstrates any of these signs, it’s probably time to say goodbye. However, there’s always a chance for change and if your gut’s telling you she’s worth it, trust yourself. I highly recommend you follow your heart and make the decision that will be best for your well-being. Just see what happens and don’t worry too much, it’ll all be okay.
