5 Lessons We Learned From Meredith And McDreamy

If you're a "Grey's" fan, then you know better than anyone that Meredith's love with Derek is something we all hope to find one day. It's also no secret Meredith grew so much from this untraditional relationship. She went from being dark and twisty to a successful, full-time mother and surgeon. We can all learn a little something from their relationship and apply it to the dark and twisty corners of our very own lives.

1. Don't plan for a classic and cliché love story because that's boring.

Don't hope and plan for the classic, "meet, fall in love, get married, have babies, the end" story because it's all bull. Don't be alarmed when bumps in the road happen. No two soul mates have the perfect set of events happen. If Derek and Meredith survived a secret wife, numerous life threatening experiences and pregnancy battles, then you can survive any storm that will come your way with your future lover.

2. Traditional is also very boring.

Derek and Mere met in a bar, got engaged in an elevator without the classic "down on one knee" proposal and got married on a post-it. It's not about how you go about your love; it's the love part that matters.

3. Love comes before life's accessories.

Yes, work and your job are important, but never let it affect the love between you and your partner. Derek and Meredith had their fair share of fights all over the course of their careers together. Remember the Alzheimer's trial or that confusing brain mapping in Washington D.C. part of the show? Talk about stressful.

4. Speak your mind and be vulnerable.

Remember the iconic scene where Meredith finally stopped being dark and twisty and told Derek she loved him? "Shut up. You say Meredith, and I yell, remember? OK. Here it is. Your choice? It’s simple. Her, or me. And I’m sure she’s really great, but Derek, I love you. In a… really, really big… pretend to like your taste in music, let you eat the last piece of cheesecake, hold a radio over my head outside your window, unfortunate way that makes me hate you, love you. So pick me. Choose me. Love me." Let your voice be heard and never let someone go without knowing how you feel.

5. Break down the dark and twisty walls.

It's no secret Meredith didn't have the best childhood. With an absent father, and her mother barely paying her any attention, she grows up to be a very intelligent girl, yet she doesn't have an optimistic view on family and love, that is, until Derek. It took Derek many tries, many different times, to get Meredith to trust him and let him in. In the end, they were left with a beautiful family and a remarkable love story we all daydream about finding one day. Long live McDreamy and Meredith.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
