5 Things To Remember When You Fail

Failure just means you are in good company.

In the words of Hannah Montana, "Everybody has those days." Everyone fails, it is a natural part of life. However, it really does suck. In college, there are a hundred things a day that can get you down, and sometimes failing a test seems like the end of the world, but it doesn't have to be. Have a good cry and then remember to put on your boss playlist, drink some coffee, and hold. Failure can be the open door to great success if you let it!

You are in good company

Every great person has fallen flat on their face or failed. Oprah was fired from her first real jobs, JK Rowling was turned down by countless publishers, and the list goes on. Failing doesn't define you, it actually makes you a better person because you can learn from it. So really you should be patting yourself on the back.

Remind yourself how awesome you really are

Personally, there is no harm in asking your friends or family for a friendly reminder of why you are so amazing. It can be hard to remember how talented, smart and boss you really are, especially when it feels like life is throwing rocks at you left and right. And if you have a friend who is struggling, send them a nice reminder of how great they are.

Do something that inspires you

The worse part of getting into a rut is staying there. When life goes wrong, or you do bad on a test or get put down, it can be hard to rise above. However, that is the best time to find and do the things that inspire you. Listen to a podcast from some girl bosses (The Bitch Bible is my personal Fav), watch your favourite movie, write in your journal, do anything that gets your soul moving. When you can move on from the lows it makes the highs so much better.

Remember you can't control other people's kindness but you can control yours

It happens to the best of us. You receive a nasty email from your boss and it sucks; it completely ruins your day. However, you can either let their meanness have a negative outcome on your day or you can use it to help someone else. A great solution to someone's meanness towards you is to do something positive for another human. Pay for the car behind you when you're getting coffee, smile at the strangers passing you on the street, leave your happy hour server a few extra dollars then you normally would. Instead of spreading the negativity someone showed you, turn it into a positive and spread it around. It might even get back to your boss and they apologize for their actions. (You can dream at least.) Take a failure and make it a positive for someone else. It will pay off in the end.

Don't let other people get you down

In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." This is the part when you hold you're head up high. Put on some lipstick and shake it off. Again, when you get put down or fail it really sucks but you can choose to dwell on it and let it ruin your week or you can move on. After all, no one can put you down if you don't let them. So take a couple minutes (or maybe like two days depending on the severity) and then wake up the next day and conquer the world. Don't let someone's negative actions be your failure. Accept your mess up and ignore their negative words.

Remember: everyone fails, but it's what you do with that failure that means the most.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
