Fall is in full bloom here at Eastern Kentucky University. Trees are changing colors, the ground is covered in leaves and pumpkin is in anything and everything. It is simply beautiful and many proclaim it as one of their favorite seasons. Most of us admit, we love fall with all of its pumpk-iny goodness, but fall gives us more than pumpkin spice lattes.
1. Change
Fall shows us that change is beautiful and inevitable. When we think of trees, we typically think of green leaves, but fall time is proof that even that is not forever. We can take comfort in the fact that change is the consistency in life and there's something universal and beautiful in that truth. Looking outside your window during fall time is a subtle yet bold reminder of this.
2. With life comes death
Trees are living things, like us. The brilliantly bold colors of fall is like a grand finale of life before winter comes. We should live life so beautifully like fall time. Winter is inevitable for us all, but life should be lived like fall (deep, I know).
3. Don't take things too seriously and slow down
The ground is littered in brown, red, and orange leaves. It helps us take a step back and enjoy the crunching sound of leaves beneath or feet. Run, play, jump, skip-whatever in the leaves! Life is meant to be enjoyed. While you're walking to class, so consumed in to-do lists and stress, take a moment to jus be in the moment. The colors and leaves on the ground help pull us out of our own heads. Take a moment to dance and appreciate the beauty right in front of your face because, like I stated before, change is inevitable and these leaves will not be here for forever.
4. Where there pain, there is joy (and vice versa)
Life is in constant flux and shifting. If you don't put yourself out there in the world, live, take chances, make friends and experience this world, you will never experience the joy it is to be alive. However, with joy, pain is inevitable. It's not depressing, negative, or pessimistic, it is just the truth. The imperfection of a moment. The beauty can be found in that fact itself. What I am trying to say is that so many people revel in fall, but condemn the winter time. Without winter, there would be no fall--but it is worth it.
We can learn a lot about life through nature and the seasons, you just have to be receptive to it. Here's to thinking about fall time in an even deeper light!
