24 Things That I Learned In 2018 That I Will Be Taking With Me Into 2019 And Beyond
Loui Wenig

This past year was interesting, to say the least. There's always so much to learn no matter what the things are going on in your life. But this past year especially, I've learned so many new things about myself and the world around me. The lessons I endured weren't always pleasant ones, but they taught me things that I never even knew existed before.

1. Always respect others

2. Family is so important, don't take them for granted

3. Books truly do make the reader smarter and more aware

4. Choose your friends wisely

5. Pray without ceasing

6. It's okay if people want to spread rumors about you as long as you know they're not true

7. Deem the source reputable before believing gossip

8. No friends are better than bad friends

9. Anyone can change

10. Money isn't everything and should never hold you back from taking that trip, enrolling in college or doing something that's important to you

11. Jesus is the key to everyday happiness and true joy

12. Not everyone is going to like you and that's okay as long as you like you

13. Always have the hard conversations because they really make you see who you are and who they are

14. EVERYTHING ISN'T ABOUT YOURSELF

15. Lying isn't worth the pain - tell it like it is

16. You don't have to be how people once knew you to be - you CAN change

17. Following Jesus is a lonely road but Jesus followed His Father so I know I can do it with His strength

18. It's OK to have feelings and show them... You don't have to be a robot

19. Saying how you feel is brave even though you could get rejected, but just do it because it's better than living inside your mind

20. God is greater than anything you will ever go through... Talk to God about it

21. Learning and being smart is cool

22. Find someone to hold you accountable for the actions in your life because it's good to have someone you trust to give you advice

23. Make time for your friends even if you're really busy because they care about and love you

24. No one is going to motivate you like yourself. Find the desire in yourself to rise up

There are so many more things to be learned and I can't wait for what 2019 has in store for me! Think of some things that you've learned this past year and reach for goals in 2019. Make it a great year!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
