It's summertime, which means many of my days or nights consist of binge watching my favorite shows that I discover on Netflix. Recently, I began watching "Gilmore Girls" and am currently on season six (so we see how addicted I am). I am one of those people that get really involved in shows, movies and books and feel as if the main characters are my best friends and somehow pick out the life lessons in all these forms of entertainment. So far I feel like "Gilmore Girls" has had the most, and I'm really enjoying the show.
1. Friendship
Friendship in this show is the first thing I picked up on. From the start they show how Rory and her mother Lorelai are best friends. They are not afraid to talk about everything and anything. Rory is also friends with Lane who in the first episode they begin to attend different schools, yet their friendship stays strong because they make it that way. Many other friendships are within the show and their importance represents how important life friends are.
2. Coffee, coffee, coffee, and of course food.
This one might've related to me the most and if you're as addicted to coffee and food as I am, it'll surely relate to you too. Lorelai Gilmore is a vacuum when it comes to both of these things and she has graciously passed it down to her daughter as well. Nothing wrong with having four or more cups of coffee a day and especially nothing wrong with eating when you're hungry!
3. Your impact on someone can change them
This is an argued point, but I wholeheartedly believe that you can change a person for the better if you are trying to have a positive impact on them and if they are willing to change. Jesse was that "bad" boy, wise ass kid and yet because of Rory's attitude and Jesse wanting to change, he became more responsible. In a way Rory opened his eyes.
4. Second chances are worth it
If you follow me on Twitter, you may see my constant tweets about Rory and Dean and how much I want them together. I was probably the happiest person ever when they gave their relationship another shot. I feel like second chances are important because truthfully, mistakes happen with everything you do the first time usually.
5. Failing can lead to success
Being a perfectionist like Rory is hard and it is heartbreaking when all you want to do is have everything go as planned and something messes it up. Sometimes, failing at the plan you once had is the actual way to success because you learn much more on a path with road blocks in it than on a straight road.
I really couldn't be happier that I started watching "Gilmore Girls" and I don't know what I am going to do with my life when I finish it. The characters in the show have taught me so much about life and have made me happiest whenever I was feeling down. I recommend, 10/10.
