Little sisters are a blessing. They can be your dress up doll, your best frenemy, and eventually, your confidant. Although she drives me crazy sometimes, I'm lucky to be able to have a sister that I can always rely on!
1. How to be a mom
There's a little parent in every older sibling. Whether it comes out while giving her lectures, tutoring her in Math, or teaching her how to braid, you've learned a little about what it's like to be an authoritative figure.
2. Playing dress up is important
New clothes have always called for a fashion show in my family. My sister and I would get dressed up and strut our stuff up and down the hallways, showing off our new clothes. Just doing this together made us feel cute and confident about ourselves.
3. Creativity is key
My sister is an artist. She’ll sit and sketch and draw these amazing pictures to wind herself down for the day. She uses her artistic skills to not only relax, but to express how she's feeling. I admire her ability to let this creativity flow through her and onto paper.
4. How to share
To be honest, my sister is better at sharing than I am. She goes out of her way every time to get me that extra slice of pizza or that other piece of chocolate that I like better. Often times, she's been willing to give up something to make sure I don't miss out, something that I admittedly am not great at.
5. How to babysit
My parents (somehow) thought it was safe for me to stay at home alone with my sister starting when I was about 10. I learned all about how to get kids to stop whining, eat their vegetables, and go to sleep on time, all thanks to my sister. Props to her for dealing with my beginners attempts at babysitting!
6. Laugh a lot
If there's one thing my sister and I constantly do together, it's laugh. We are the queens of making silly jokes laughing about dumb faces for days at a stretch. No matter how stressed I am at a given time, I know that a few hours of laughing with my sister will make relaxed.
7. Patience is a virtue
As much as I love my sister, sometimes dealing with her is a struggle. However, I quickly remember that I was this way when I was little also, got past it, and eventually was able to learn from these experiences. As frustrating as it is to argue with her about things like how she's putting on too much makeup (it's true Shivi!!!!!!!), I know that as long as I'm patient and talk to her, I'll be able to offer some of my knowledge.
