Leslie Knope's Top 6 Quotes on Life and Love

I picked up "Parks and Recreation" this summer. Mostly I just started it because after working 8-12 at a half-day summer camp, I really didn't have much else to do. I'd heard about "Parks and Rec" before, but had never really heard much.

When I started it though, I was amazed. No way that show could have been funnier than "The Office," which I loved so much. But it was.

So in honor of a perfect series finale,  here are some of Leslie Knope's most relatable and informative quotes.

1. "I'm going to be direct and honest with you. I would like a glass of red wine and I'll take the cheapest one you have because I can't tell the difference."

Some people, like my parents, might argue me on this one. Seriously, I'm pretty sure if someone put a glass of really nice, aged red wine to my left and a glass of Barefoot to my right and then blindfolded me, I would never be able to distinguish between the two. Maybe my college tastes aren't refined enough yet, but hey I think Leslie was onto something here.

2. "Guys love it when you can show them you're better than they are at something they love."

Have any of you ever met a guy who doesn't love it when you can do this? That's all I need to say on that one...

3. "I am big enough to admit I am often inspired by myself by myself."

Leslie was never ashamed by her ideas or even by herself. A lot of girls could learn a lot by watching the motivated Leslie Knope. A lot of the time people get inspiration from friends, family, forms of pop culture, and that's okay. But sometimes, we can be inspired by ourselves. By our ideas, our ambitions, by things we love and by things we find interesting.

4. "Hey Leslie. It's Leslie. Hang in there. I love you. Bye."

What I get mostly from this is to love and support yourself no matter what, which is something we should all have learned or will hopefully learn at some point in our lives. And sometimes if you're having a bad time or are feeling down, you can always leave yourself an encouraging voicemail (if you're one of those people who isn't bothered by the real sound of their voice... how many of those people are actually out there?).

5. "Math is worthless in real life."

Finally someone who will speak the truth that I have been speaking to myself for years. I haven't run into anything that my phone calculator will not solve. And as I am not a business major, I never plan on ever doing more complicated math than calculating a decent tip. Thank you Leslie for supporting my idea that it's okay if you stink at math because math is stupid.

And now the most important and mine (and everyone's favorite):

6. "I love you and I like you."

Cuter words have never been spoken by any TV couple I have ever seen. A truer ideal hasn't ever been spoken by one either. When Leslie said "I love you and I like you" to Ben Wyatt, she spoke the truth. Who doesn't want to find someone they love and they like? We've all heard that you want to be friends with whoever you marry. I mean we're all looking for someone nice enough to hang out with us... forever, which is kind of freaky honestly. So I'm going to keep in mind her words for the future, they are pretty good ones (that wedding scene didn't hurt either).

Thanks for the laughs and lessons Leslie and the rest of the parks crew. We all will sure miss you (until we tune in next on Netflix anyway).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
