Leroy Jethro Gibbs For President

Because our country needs a nice slap on the head.

During the past weeks, we have seen our presidential candidates speak at their respective conventions. Both conventions have shown flaws in both candidates. Many people on social media have also expressed their confusion on why these are our final candidates. No one would have imagined that our candidates would be Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. What if we stretched our imaginations further and elected a fictional character for president?

TV's number one drama "NCIS" has introduced us to Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs for thirteen years and counting, and I believe he has characteristics that would make an incredible president.

He is a great leader.

For those of you that haven't seen "NCIS," Agent Gibbs is the head agent of probably the best team of agents for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. He is well-known and respected by the FBI, CIA, Pentagon, and many other government agencies.

He is gender neutral.

Throughout every season of "NCIS," Gibbs always has a female on his team, including agents, a forensic scientist, and directors. Many may see this as the show trying to keep a neutral basis, but look at how he interacts with them. He treats all of his female agents with the utmost respect and equality. Bottom line: as long as you can get the job done, he doesn't care what gender you are.

He is good with kids.

In many situations when a child is in need, Gibbs is the one who is able to help the child calm down and open up. He has a peaceful demeanor to him when he is around children, which is a great trait for a president to have.

He is a military man.

His experience as a marine allows him to understand the military. He supports the military, understands the conflicts soldiers go through, and knows what is necessary to keep the military running in top shape. This would make him a phenomenal Commander-in-Chief.

He does not trust easily.

It takes a long time for someone to earn the trust of Agent Gibbs, and rightly so. He knows that humans lie, steal, cheat, and murder. He also knows that government agencies can be corrupt. Applying this to a presidential perspective, Agent Gibbs would not have someone in his Cabinet that he did not fully trust. His team would be top-notch, honest, and not corrupt.

He does not put up with crap.

Agent Gibbs values hard work. He loves his team as if they were family, but he will not put up with laziness and will give them a slap on the head when they need to wake up. He also does not put up with corruption. When someone corrupts his government agency, he takes them down. When someone tries to terrorize our nation, he takes them down.

He HATES technology.

Agent Gibbs can barely understand how to use his flip phone, let alone Gmail or Twitter. You will not have to worry about any technology scandals coming from him.

He has a set of rules that applies to himself, his team, and life in general.

Throughout "NCIS," Agent Gibbs shares his set of rules that he and his first wife came up with. These are rules that are applied strictly to himself as an agent, such as Rule #1a: Never let suspects stay together. They can also be applied to anyone else, such as Rule #8: Never take anything for granted. A candidate with such a high moral standard that he sets for himself and others shows strong character that our country needs as a president.

He loves America.

To sum up Agent Gibbs, he is a patriot. He defends the stars and stripes. He will do whatever it takes to protect America and its values.

Those of you that understand Agent Gibbs' character understand that if he was asked to run for the presidency, he would say no. He is not the type of person that would want to hold an executive position. He would want to be out in the field getting the job done.

Having Leroy Jethro Gibbs for a president would be amazing. Sadly, that is not the case. Who knows, maybe if we're lucky Mark Harmon will run for president.

I hope that at some point in my lifetime we will have a presidential candidate that has the same character qualities as the great Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
