1. You constantly bump elbows with right handed people.
At the dinner table or in your lecture hall, you will always find yourself bumping elbows with the righty next to you. If you're lucky, you get to sit on the outside of the table or somehow find a left-handed desk even though those are really, really rare. Us lefties are used to the bumping by now, but sometimes righties still get mad at us when it happens.
2. Every time you write, you have to deal with this on your hand.
The annoying pencil marks on your hand. When this happens, you have to choose whether or not you should wash your hands in between classes. Most of the time if you do though, the smudge just appears again the next class, so it isn't even worth it.
3. It's impossible to write in a three-ring binder.
It is a terrible day when you have to take lecture notes when using a three-ring binder. If you decide to be brave and open the binder up, everyone stares at you when they hear that popping noise.
4. Everything you write ends up smudged.
It's a good day when you write something and it doesn't end up like this! The struggle to not smudge your writing is real every single day.
5. Scissors are your worst nightmare.
Trying to find a pair of left-handed scissors is hard, but what's even harder is trying to cut with a pair of right-handed scissors when they weren't meant for you. Eventually you give up and ask a righty to cut whatever needs to be cut.
6. Driver's cup holder is for the right hand.
It's actually difficult to try and reach down to grab a drink from the cup holder using your opposite hand while trying to focus on the road. Trying to do anything that you're not used to with your opposite hand can be a difficult task.
7. Ballpoint pens don't work as well.
Ever have that time when your pen wasn't working, but the second you ask your right-handed friend to try, it suddenly works? This is because the pen tip pushes into the paper when lefties write instead of flowing with the direction of the text, therefore making it more difficult for the ink to go onto the paper when a lefty writes.
8. Cord on the credit card machine pen isn't long enough.
Struggling to sign your name at the grocery store because the pen for the credit card machine doesn't want to reach far enough is definitely something that can ruin a lefties day and remind us that this world isn't made for us.
Despite the world mostly being made for righties, I love being a lefty. It makes me unique and I can say I'm one of the 10 percent in this world who was born left-handed. That's pretty awesome if you ask me, even if it means struggling to do some pretty simple everyday things.
