Working is now a big part of what teenagers do. They will start working at 15 to understand what their life will be like in the future. For me, that's not the case. I've always wanted to have a job because of the experience. I know it's weird, because a lot of kids don't want to work at this age. I volunteer every week, but it's not the same. Since I don't work, I have learned that I have more time to focus on my education and extracurricular activities. I get to spend more time with family and friends, which I am OK with, but I want to have new experiences.
When I think of having a job or a part-time job, I think of commitment and having new skill sets. If I did have one, I would learn how to manage my time better and how to manage money, and I would get a new experience. This has partly piqued my interest because of me just being curious to try out these parts of a typical job. I want to know what it's like to work so I can prepare for the future when I actually have a career.
1. Time Management
More than anything else, time management has always been a problem for me. Despite the classes I take outside of school, extracurriculars, school exams and making an agenda, it still is a problem. I started to think it was because most of those things aren't permanent. I don't have a test every Wednesday, and my extracurricular activities don't last a whole school year, which leads to me not having a set schedule.
On the flip side, having a part-time job may help me with this problem. A job has a set schedule that I am expected to follow, which means everything else that I do has to be scheduled around my job schedule. I can then learn how to manage all my work easily because I have a permanent schedule that I need to follow. It will give me more stability to make an agenda where I can easily manage my time based on priorities.
2. Money Management
Along with time management, there's money management. Now, this is a very important skill to have in the future. Having this skill could give me a head start on saving money, and I won't have to worry about how to do it in the future with an actual job. I would work hard for the money, which will make me appreciate it more. This will encourage me to have my own budget and save money for something else, like college tuition.
Money management shows that I can be responsible when it comes to money. I know it's hard to do this because I get a desire to want a lot of things, so in a way, I will be able to control myself better when it comes to shopping. That can save me time and money.
3. Experience
Experience is a big part of life for me. It's how I learn things. With the experience of a job, it would prepare me for the world. I would know what to look for after college. The experience gives me time to think and learn from the job. I won't be shoved into the world after college with no background, but instead, I will have knowledge of what to do and where to take it.
It's also curiosity that is encouraging me to want a job. I want to know what life will be like and what to expect from it with a job.
There are other skills I can benefit from if I have a job, but for me, time and money management are the most important ones. A job will move me ahead and make it easier for me to master the skills in the future when I have an actual job of my career choice. There are other ways to get better with these skills, but for me, having a job would be the best.
