When on vacation in Hilton Head South Carolina this past week, I met a man who makes killer snow cones for a living. His name was Chris. Chris didn't just make little chunks of ice and put really crappy flavoring onto them. Instead he made sure that my snow cone were actually the same texture as snow fall. He made sure that his products were worth selling by creating all the flavors himself and knowing how they taste. Chris enjoyed what he did for a living and made sure that his customers would come back to him.
The thing I learned from Chris was that when you do what you love, you will never let yourself down. When you do what you love, people will come up to you and tell you that you have inspired them because you didn't give up on your dreams. We should never view our dreams as being too little or too small. Chris told me that when he looks back at how far he's come from 4 years, it really amazes him. Everything just takes time and will not happen over night. What do you think people said about J.K. Rowling when she said she was going to write about wizards? But hey, look where she is now!
So often we think that we cannot overcome obstacles that are set in our life. We tend to think that these obstacles are signs not to do the next thing that comes along when honestly, sometimes these challenges just led to a better outcome and make you a stronger person! You wouldn't know how great success feels if you never experienced failure every once and a while.
What I learned from a guy who makes snow cones for a living is to never give up on your dreams. Do what you love and you will find happiness in that. When you're good at what you do, and you enjoy it endlessly you will find true bliss. It seems so simple and yet so many people overlook this. We should supports those that want to do something they love instead of degrading them for having these dreams.
I would have never imagined that going in for a snow cone that I would meet a guy who changed my whole perspective on a career choice. I know that I am going into early childhood education, and I can honestly say that I am not going into it for the money. When you're passionate about something, you will end up with more reward from that than you could have thought.
