Have you ever hard a hard time transitioning from your daily routine to a relaxed one? Me too. Relaxation is a wonderful luxury that takes a conscious effort to achieve. It is an often-overlooked necessity in our fast paced lifestyles. For those of you who have a hard time relaxing, or find it hard to make the switch from the fast-paced routine of school or work, here are a few helpful tips to help you slow your brain down and get it recharged and ready to tackle the high demands of life once again.
Golden Rule #1
You have to allow yourself to have that time of relaxation. If you’re not willing to let your brain go blank for a few minutes then the rest of this article will be moot.
Go for a massage
If you have the opportunity to get a massage, do it. There are many different types of massages that can attend to your needs: hand, feet, deep tissue, hot stone, Thai...you name it! Whatever you find most enjoyable, go for it! Going for a massage will help you release the tension that has accumulated in your muscles, especially neck and shoulders. If you’re the type who needs to talk to someone to unwind or sleep this will be a quick and wonderful way to start your vacation or relaxing regimen.
Trips to the Sauna
If you do not like massages or do not have the luxury of carving out an hour or the money to get a massage, then a trip to the sauna can definitely do the trick. Steam rooms will allow your mind and body to relax because the intense hot moisture attacks your muscles, and melt away the stress. The heat exposure will gradually loosen everything.
Spending time with people you like being around
To me there is no better way to unwind then talking to a family member or friend over a hot drink or a delicious meal.
Also consider making your own food together! Over the past couple months at school, I have gone to one of my friend’s house and cooked dinner and baked desserts with her. We usually do this on Fridays and it is honestly the best way to start the weekend. Just talking, cooking and eating with her puts me in such a happy and relaxed state that I feel refreshed to conquer the academic workload that needs to be accomplished.
Watching a classic or feel-good show
Make sure that you watch a show that will completely take away your attention from the realities of work or school. Also, if you’re in a state that you really need to watch something good, sit down with a movie, documentary or television show that you know will be good or have seen so you’re not finding yourself unsatisfied and wishing you did or watched something different. Always have your go-to shows ready.
Go on a long walk outside
Going on a long walk is a great way to escape confined walls. Even if you don’t have anyone to walk with, you have the chance to soak up your surroundings and find peace in the flora and fauna that you would not otherwise realized was around you. Get in touch with your inner environmentalist.
Incorporating anyone of these or other relaxing activities to your daily routine will help you stay focused and efficient when you have to do work. This will truly help you stay balanced and feel motivated to conquer your day.
