If you look up the definition of soulmate on Google, the first result says something along the lines of: "soul mate - a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner". When it comes to friends, there's always that one special pal who fits the definition perfectly.
1. You can't hide anything from them.
They can tell the second you walk into the room the exact emotion you're feeling and sometimes can even guess what caused it. When they ask if you're okay, they can tell the second you answer whether you're telling the truth or not. They're your best friend, after all, they're supposed to read your mind!
2. You can't go an entire conversation without saying the same thing at least once.
Have you ever had that moment when you said something simultaneously, and then almost immediately after said "We are literally the same person!" simultaneously again, then went on to talk about how you're basically twins separated at birth? Whether it's little snippets of the same sentence or nearly entire conversations, you know it's real when it happens.
3. You can also have an entire conversation consisting of no words.
The best part of having a best friend is glancing up from across the room to see your partner-in-crime staring right back at you with the same look on their face. No matter the circumstance, in that moment your thoughts and actions are most likely the same as theirs. If (for some reason) it's not the same expression, judging by the amount of time you've spent together and how well you know each other, it isn't hard to interpret the look on their face.
4. In fact, you could probably hang out for hours without saying a word to each other.
The definition of lucky is knowing that you can show up at your friend's house and lay on their couch, scrolling through your phone while they do the same, and when you leave, you feel as though you shared a fulfilling few hours of friendship.
5. Time always seems to fly by when you're with them.
I am not ashamed to admit I have spent hours on my best friend's kitchen floor in the middle of the night. At first, your only plan is to get a snack out of the kitchen at 9 p.m. Next thing you know, it's 3 a.m. and you're on the floor leaning up against the cupboards and your friend is sitting on the counter, an empty bag of chips laying on the ground between you two. Time flies when you're having fun!
6. You get mistaken as siblings or a couple.
When your personalities are so similar, it is easy to be mistaken as a couple - and if you look alike, you're easily mistaken as twins of some sort. It doesn't help when you both go to deny what the person has said and you end up responding at the same time with the same answer. It usually results in a confused look and a doubtful nod of the head.
7. Matching outfits are often taken as planned, but are usually a coincidence.
Not everything is always the same between you and your bestie, but there are definitely times you bump into each other with plain clothes thrown together that look like the other person's outfit. Sometimes it results in a glare and an eye roll, but you know that you love and support them even if they think they look better than you in the same outfit.
8. Your movements are synchronized.
Spending so much time with your main squeeze means picking up on their habits. Whether it is excessive hand movements, the way they eat their food, or even the simplest of gestures, it is something you do too (even when you're not around them).
9. Whether you haven't seen them for a few days or a few weeks, you jump right back into the swing of things easily.
It is hard to go long stretches of time without talking to them, but with the friendship that you have there still isn't much catching up that you need to do. You tend to remember their schedule, so there is only a few things you don't always know.
10. You know that no matter what, through thick and thin, they will always be there for you.
I hate to be the one to tell you, but everyone has their ups and downs. A friendship like this only comes around once in a lifetime, and is sacred to most. Going a day without them is a struggle. Going a week without them is something unheard of. Even death isn't something that could come between you.
