LDR or in other words Long Distance Relationship, something I thought I'd never be apart of. I used to think like most people by saying "I could never be in a long distance relationship" or "they probably won't even last," until last year when I decided to make that commitment. Ever since I did, I've come to see it as one best but also one of the hardest things I've ever done. Of course, people will judge you for your decision, but then again everyone judges for everything.
Now I'm not saying all couples who date "local" have issues, but most I have known have had some sort of trouble with their significant other putting in the effort to be in that relationship. While in an LDR the fact that someone is wanting to put in the effort to be in a long distance relationship is just a huge commitment in itself. Which brings me to my next point, when in an LDR you get a lot of phone calls, texts or Skype/Facetime calls. This meaning you get more of a chance to know each other because you are constantly talking to one another. It is definitely a huge factor because if you are anything like I am, there are walls that surround your heart and you want to make sure you know the person beforehand. The communication that builds with LDR is incredible; I for one have not always been great on communication skills. Like I stated before I basically relied on my phone and laptop to communicate with my boyfriend. I have become a better communicator because I know how important it is to talk to each other.
The best part, at least in my eyes, is the planning to travel to one another because you basically plan an itinerary for the days spent together, which can be the best dates of your life. The feelings you get when you are on your way to see them or they are on the way to see you is incredible. Mainly because for however long you two are there together, you might feel butterflies the whole time. Granted not everyone has a chance to travel frequently to their loved one, but that doesn't mean you can't go on dates. Watching a movie on your laptop and doing the "three, two, one, go!" method is a great one because even while watching the movie you can watch both the movie and your significant other's expression.
"Distance makes the heart grow founder." As annoying as that saying can be, it's true. As time goes on with your significant other you will notice you appreciate the moments you get to spend with them with Skype or in person. You tend to not take the little moments for granted, such as the three magic words of "I love you". At the end of the LDR, when you are finally able to be together in person permanently, you will find it has made the relationship between the two of you stronger.
