We all have that friend that we have come to love. Whether they are close in distance or far away, we know they will always be our friend. But a long distance best friend is a little bit different. They know more, they hear more, and you sometimes worry less because they aren't around to tell other people. These 6 things are somethings that I have learned more people understand! I hope you can too.

ps. these are pictures of me and my long distance best friend

1. They know about people who don't know about your best friend.

You know good and well, especially if you're from a small town like me, that your best friend always knows about people in your town that don't know about them. you call them with all the gossip but let's be real, when they come to visit and you see one of the people you gossip about in public, you both look at each other and laugh.

2. When they come home, you are inseparable.

Having your best friend 524 miles away is hard but when they come home, it is like they have never been gone. you know that when they come home, you will have every second of every day planned and your days will start early in the morning because a week is too short of a time, especially when you see them once a year, maybe even every two years.

3. you know exactly what they're thinking by one snapchat picture.

When they Snapchat you and there are no words, you can totally understand what they are thinking. You know that they are annoyed, happy, stressed, mad, sad, or in a sleepy 11:11 state of mind ;)

4. you call and text each other more than you do your significant other

When you look down at your phone, it is either ringing or there is a new text saying, "GUESS WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!" or "OMG I MISS YOU!!!" you are always in communication

5. if someone read your texts, you would be embarrassed.

Becuase your best friend doesn't live in the same town as you or same state as you, you know that you tell them more than most people would. but that's okay, they are your best friend and they will always be there for you.

6. Saying goodbye is never easy.

I can say personally, this point speaks for its self. Living without your best friend is never easy, especially in college because it's stressful and school takes up most of the free time that you have but, when you talk to your best friend on the phone, life is great.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
