It is a pretty typical situation. In fall semester, we are so adamant about having a kick-a** year in college that we throw the ideas around of, “Cancun! Cozumel, or the Keys!” for our year’s upcoming spring break. As the year progresses, however, we blow money on food and drinks and other random things we think we need at the time, or we continue to put off the process of planning. Our once exciting spring break dreams dwindle down to ... crap, spring break is less than a few weeks away and I still have no plans. You now become extremely jealous of your friends who had their sh*t together ahead of time and are prepping to go on a cruise.
But don’t fret! Others are in the same boat as you (not that cruise ship, though), and you still have time to make the most of your week vacation without being bored at home. You’ll probably save a decent amount of money, too.
Have a “staycation”.
Going back home for spring break can still be a great time. Step out of your comfort zone and explore parts of your city that you typically overlook. Whether it be a museum, zoo, water park, or parts of your city you never take advantage of, get out there and do just that! Make a list of all of the restaurants you want to try and be on the lookout for local shows and events happening while you are home. You will have a good time doing something different in your own town, as well as not having to travel far or spend large amounts of money.
Visit a friend in another city.
If you have a friend going home for Spring break as well, take a few days and drive to them. You’ll get a chance to still travel, and staying at someone else's place is free — always a perk.
Go to an amusement park.
Lucky for us Florida residents, we have quite a few to choose from. Whether you are close enough to drive to Orlando for the day or stay a night or two, theme parks always show a fun time. Not to mention, you can last-minute plan to do this and still be able to get tickets to the park.
Go on a mini-road trip.
Look up a place a few hours away. Whether it be a national park, a historic landmark, or anything else you’re interested in, grab a few friends, split up the gas, and drive. After all, spring break can be about adventures and exploring. No one ever said it had to be a drunk party fest at the beach. You would be surprised how many things you can find say, 60 miles away from you.
Camping.
Camping is a fair price activity that you can book a few weeks in advance. Check out a neat spot by the water and have each friend bring different supplies. There are also Springs all around Florida: Ginnie Springs, Itchatucknee, and Blue Springs, to name a few, where you can reserve a camp site and enjoy floating down the river during the day.
Groupon.
Only the best app ever! Checking Groupon on a regular basis will always find you the best deals, and what better time for that than when you’re searching for some fun on SB?
For you spontaneous folks …
Last minute cruises and flights that need to be filled up can sometimes be purchased slightly cheaper than if you were to book in advance. So if you really want to get on a cruise … well, keep checking, and a there just might be a few spots for you and friends.
There you have it. Spring break is near, but there is still hope for you slackers! So take my advice and make the most of your week.
