The Last Jedi: Is The Jedi Gone For Good?

This week’s article will be one of high controversy. Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It’s bringing a lot of fans out of the woodworks. Some like it while others hate it. What about the fans that are diehards about the original three? Would they like it? In my opinion, no.

If you haven’t seen it stop right here. MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!!

For the fans who only watched the Original Trilogy, this film goes in a totally new direction. Anakin was supposed to be the Jedi to restore balance to the force between the light and dark sides of the force. We all know that Anakin ( AKA Darth Vader) is Luke's father. Luke has become a Jedi in hopes of restoring some balance to the force between light and dark.

In this film, Luke has given up on the force and is living like a hermit on the island of Ach-To where the first Jedi temple was. But because of Kylo Ren, Ben Solo, the son of Leia and Han solo, burned down the temple and created the Knights of Ren, he has turned his back on the Jedi way and living out the rest of his days alone. Vowing to never leave the island Luke sunk his X wing so he had no way to escape the isolation. Rey finds him and wants to be trained to become a Jedi.

Rey has never used the force, she has no experience, yet the newbie can wield a lightsaber and has telekinesis abilities. This reminds Luke of Ben (AKA Kylo Ren), the raw power of the force flowing through her. Luke refuses to train her because he doesn’t want a repeat of what happened with Ben.

There are several things in this movie that doesn’t agree with the original trilogy.

The reason that Luke doesn’t want to train Rey is that when he trained Ben he turned to the dark side of the force. The driving force behind Ben turning was that Luke tried to kill him. He felt the dark side of the force in him and was going to take him out. I’m assuming that’s because he didn’t want him to turn into another Darth Vader. As we learned from The Force Awakens Kylo looked up to his grandfather, Darth Vader. He wanted to be just like him and rule the galaxy by the power of the dark side. I don’t think that Kylo got the full story about his grandfather and that Luke brought him back to the light side. He saved him just before his death. There was good in Vader all along.

It doesn’t make sense for Luke to want to kill Ben. In, Return of the Jedi, Luke was challenged by Emperor Palpatine but he refused to give into the anger of the dark side. And together his father, Darth Vader and Luke killed the emperor. With Luke showing restraint against the force to kill Vader it doesn’t make sense that he would follow through with killing Ben. Ben is his nephew so why would he try to kill him? Shouldn’t he have done the same thing and tried to turn him from the dark side of the force? Shouldn’t he have cared enough to do so? I mean after all Luke was training him to become a Jedi.

Has our Luke turned to the dark side of the force? I don’t think so. With all the latest comments on the film, it looks like the fans are outraged at this turn of events. Luke was supposed to be the hope for the rebellion, to train a new group of Jedi to restore the Jedi order.

So why the sudden change? George Lucas had the whole series planned out and now that he is no longer in charge the story has changed and the writer took it in a different direction.

It would be a great honor to be given the challenge of finishing out the trilogy for a brilliant writer such as Lucas. I wouldn’t have changed the story. Collaboration with Lucas would have been good. It was after all his baby. His brilliant mind was the one to make it what it was. Rian Johnson just didn’t do it justice. He turned the beloved character of Luke into a bad guy and made Rey into the next Jedi to take over his place.

Will the last in the series of the beloved movies end in failure? Will the Star Wars saga end with the dark side taking over the galaxy or will there be a return of Luke who became one with the Force and disappeared like his Master Yoda? What is in store for the Star Wars fans for the final installment of the Saga? Will Luke return? Will Rey succumb to the dark side and rule the galaxy with Kylo Ren?

My hopes are that they both rule the galaxy on the light side of the force and the Jedi become the rulers of the galaxy instead of the dark side. But you never can tell what’s in store. There will be more articles to follow in the coming weeks. I will be watching the film a couple more times just to absorb all the facts

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
