On February 12, 2020, Netflix released its much-anticipated sequel for To All The Boys I've Loved Before, titled To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. The sequel immediately picks up from the first film, after Lara Jean and Peter confess their true feelings after enduring a "fake relationship".
While watching the sequel, Lara Jean's character had me feeling uneasy while navigating her budding relationship with Peter Kavinsky as well as getting to know the alluring John Ambrose McClaren. I could not figure it out for the longest time, but her attitudes throughout the film hit very close to home.
I finally figured it out; I've been with guys like Lara Jean. My friends have been with people like Lara Jean. She is honestly a lot to handle, and both Peter and John Ambrose deserve better. These qualities seen in TATB2 prove why people like her are not ready for a relationship.
Insecurity is their Most Prominent Personality Trait
I know too many people like this. It is expected for us to have insecurities because we're human, but these people take it to a higher level. They always feel undeserving of their boyfriend or girlfriend (and definitely let them know) and typically have a negative outlook on life all together.
They constantly pick themselves apart and take their sadness out on their boyfriend or girlfriend. Sometimes, they bottle up their feelings until they eventually burst. They mask their emotions under the stability that comes with having a boyfriend or girlfriend. These people are emotionally exhausting to be with. They eventually they stop listening to what you have to say because they are wrapped up in their doubtfulness. They refuse to be vulnerable with their S.O. and end up pushing them away. Eventually, being hurt by this person becomes inevitable.
Lara Jean would constantly question Peter's devotion for her, and it nearly cost her a boy who really loves her. Unfortunately, most aren't so lucky. She would constantly compare their relationship to that of Peter and his ex-girlfriend, Gen. These people need to wait before jumping into relationships because if they don't love themselves, how are they supposed to love someone else?
Lara Jean had so much growing up to do. I'm convinced that in real life, their relationship would have not made it through.
