Lambert's: Southern Missouri's Hidden Secret

Southeast Missouri State University students and Cape Girardeau area locals all know of a secret place that the rest of the country does not know about. This place has some of the most delicious food and sometimes the food comes flying at you.

This place is called Lambert's.

Lambert's is a home-style restaurant and is "home of the throwed rolls." Though Lambert's is not actually located in Cape Girardeau, but instead is located in Sikeston Missouri, which is about 30 minuets south of Cape in the boot-heel of Missouri, which adds a huge effect to the southern style home cooking offered there. But as I said before the drive is so worth it. Many locals and college students would agree that Lambert's is a great place to take a mini road trip to and hang out for the night.

Now that we have established a location let's talk about the food. The food is amazing, and there's a lot of it, so come hungry. But ordering here is not like ordering off and menu in any old restaurant. You first order a entree and then two or three sides. While you are waiting for your food people are walking around with these things called "pass arounds" these things are southern home style foods such as fried okra and macaroni and tomatoes. Then there are the rolls, the waiters come out and yell "hot roll" to the open room of about 100 people. Then you put up your hand and as they throw the rolls across the room in hopes to catch one. Being gluten free I could not catch a "hot roll" but who would not get excited to see carbs flying through the air.

For those with dietary restrictions such as yours truly, Lambert's has got you covered. They have a diet restriction menu. Also if you are in a wheel chair, you and your party gets to sit down immediately instead of waiting in line with everyone else to sit.

A few more things you should know before you go and experience this awesome place. Lambert's does not accept credit cards, but they do take checks and cash. Also they do not take reservations, but you can call ahead and see how long the wait may be. The wait on the weekends are usually pretty long versus if you go during the week.

Lambert's Cape Girardeau's hidden secret is that it is a fun place to either take your family who are visiting you, or some of your friends who need to relax before finals week, or to talk, laugh and maybe make some memories. If you do not ever think you will make it to Sikeston Missouri there are two other locations, as well one in Ozark Missouri, and the other is in Foley Arkansas. So the next time you are in the "boot heel" of Missouri, stop by and enjoy some fun at Lambert's.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
