Sometimes you cannot be a sweetheart to get your point across.

Unapologetically, I do curse. I was not raised around swearing, but I have a love for language. Words are crucial, they are one of the few things that we cannot get back once they are released...therefore choose them carefully. I believe that sometimes you have to curse for others to understand the magnitude of your statement. Out of courtesy (and common sense), I do not curse around adults, at work, or in class; but during serious discussions, or to articulate a point, sometimes cursing is necessary.

While having a conversation with a relative, we fell on the topic of cursing, and being that my family is very religious, she objected the idea using the language for it showed "a lack of vocabulary." Though cursing excessively is rather unappealing, I would have to disagree with my relative's statement. Someone can say the same sentence repeatedly, but they would not grab someone's attention until they curse. Is it because of their tone? The word used? The words used around it? Who said it?

Words cut deep; not just ones meant to offend, but also statements that get the gears spinning in your mind. Statements that make your eyes widen and think 'Wow, I have never thought like this about that before,'

Ladies DO curse because sometimes we have to roll up our sleeves for others to take us seriously. Sometimes people get caught up in the grace in elegance of a women and believes that she is not able to 'hold her own'.

For instance:

You (or a lady you know) feels strongly about a particular issue. She has politely voiced her opinion repeatedly, including facts and figures to defend her idea, yet she receives a deaf ear. No one hears her until she puts some base in her voice and (up to her) swears.


Though the root of this story is about accepting (appropriate) swearing, the undermining detail is that ladies, we have a voice. Sometimes we have to go from soprano to tenor so that we are not walked over, but we have ideas, talents, and abilities too. We live in a male dominated to society, but what would this world be without women?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
