We all are sometimes guilty of being wrapped up in the materialistic things of life. Whether it's the brand of shoes we are wearing on our feet, or the brand of sportswear we decide to wear while we workout. Labels most definitely play a part in how we look and how much we choose to spend. We all are guilty of just wearing things for the name of the designer or because our peers have it. Michael Kors, Polo Ralph Lauren, Armani and Kenneth Cole – just to name a few, are some of the brands that catch my eye at just a glance. But there's a difference in enjoying nice clothes and being a label whore.
Label whores are the individuals who feel the need to only wear name brand clothes with the name of the brand usually placed somewhere for everyone to see.
There's always that one friend who has to be seen carrying that Michael Kors' purse, flaunting it in the face of others or your one buddy who has to let everyone know he has on latest Jordan sneakers. While these may be very successful brands which are popular amongst the people in our generation, it isn't necessary to throw it in the face of people or act differently because they choose not to wear those certain labels. And quite honestly the truth of the matter is that... no one cares.
No one cares that your blue Vineyard Vines whale is plastered all over your shorts, and shirt, and coozie and car. No one cares that you have the Michale Kors' purse, and shoes, bracelet, watch and sunglasses. Truthfully, it's tacky. Being wrapped up in the label defeats the purpose of the attire.
Your clothing is a way to help you enhance who you want to be and sometimes who you need to be perceived as. And when you think about it logically, throwing the label you're wearing in the face of others will not make them want to be around you. It comes off as pretentious and snobby and gives people the impression that you think you are better than them.
Now, I am not knocking those who have the luxury of being able to afford these pricey labels. Because I rightfully so am one of those people. But, I am aware that less is more and that just because you wear name brand clothes does not mean you know fashion or you have style.
So attention to all you label whores. This essentially just served as your public service announcement! It is the year 2016 and sporting around in clothes with the label overwhelmingly placed over it is not cute. Take notes my friends. Coco Chanel said it best, "It's not the appearance, it's the essence. It's not the money, it's the education. It's not the clothes, It's the class."
