Krishi Vigyan Kendra is the latest Science-based institution in which various types of training are provided which help farmers to become self-reliant. It also provides knowledge and technical knowledge to the farmers with self-employment. From 1962-1972, the Ministry of Education, Planning Commission and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, considered the establishment of a Krishi Vigyan Kendra for the spread of agriculture. In August 1973, a committee was formed; whose president was Dr. Mohan Singh Mehta. Under his chairmanship, it was decided to establish Krishi Vigyan Kendra for socio-economic upliftment of the farmers. The committee presented its report in 1974. The first Krishi Vigyan Kendra was established in 1974 in Puducherry under the administrative control of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore on a pilot basis

Concepts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra:

Krishi Vigyan Kendra will provide education through "work experience" and thus will be related to technical education, which is not mandatory to be literate to achieve.

The center will train only the expansion personnel who are employed, and the practitioners, farmers, and fishermen. In other words, the needs of those employed and self-employed will satisfy them. There will be no equal course for Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Courses and programs will be based on requirement and according to the availability of natural resources.

Under the fifth five year plan, 18 agricultural science centers were established. 44 and Krishi Vigyan Kendra were established in 1984. On 1 April 1992, in a meeting under the 8th Five Year Plan, 'National Demonstration' (in 48 districts), 'Operational Research Program', (152 centers) and 'Lab to Lad' were included in the Agriculture Science Center.

In August 2005, at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra National Convention, the Prime Minister had established every Krishi Vigyan Kendra in every rural district till 2007. At present, there are a total of 642 Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the country which is working for the development of the farmers.

Mandates

The adoption of technology products through evaluation, refinement, and formulation is the mandate of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The following activities are carried out by each agricultural science to achieve this mandate effectively and for the up gradation and development of the farmers.

To identify the local specificity of agricultural technologies, the field is tested on various farming systems.

Aggressive performance is done on farmers' fields for certification of production capacity.

The farmers and the spread workers are trained to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technology.

Works in the form of a knowledge center of New Agricultural Technology with the support of public, private and voluntary sector initiatives for improving the agriculture economy of the district.

Provide technology products such as seeds, plantation material, biological components, newborn and young livestock etc. to the farmers and also produce them.

Organizes spread activities to create awareness for rapid distribution of advanced agricultural technology and adoption of technology in agriculture and allied sectors.

Purpose of Krishi Vigyan Kendra

Agriculture science center farming farmer and replant for rural development. The following objectives are-

Demonstrations before the workers of government departments such as Agriculture / Horticulture / Fisheries / Animal Science and NGOs with the farmers in view of reducing the time gap between development and adoption of latest agricultural technology and its adoption.

In view of the socio-economic status of farmers, the examination of the technologies and verification and the lack of production and due consideration for the proper modification of technologies, see the study.

Provide training to the broadcasters working at the farmers/field workers, rural youths and field level with "functional teaching" and "verbal knowledge" method.

Supporting district levels development departments such as agriculture/ horticulture/fisheries/animal science and NGOs and their spread programs with training and communication resources.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in this way, with the transfer of training, vocational training and latest techniques in agricultural research in the field, with the transfer of the latest technologies, the district is the leading institution working at the committed level committed for overall rural development. Technology evaluation, refinement, and transfer are major in the activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. This helps in the bridge the gap between research institutes and villagers, this institution helps in the development of newly developed technology products etc. and accustomed at field level through training between farmers, rural youth and spread workers.

Training: Krishi Vigyan Kendra conducts training programs for farmers and rural youth on 30-50 times in a year. This is the most important function of the center. Training is especially important for those who have left school and are unemployed. The Center trains poultry, goat rearing, dairy and fishery to give these people self-employment and training related to home science such as sewing, knitting, pickling, making papad etc. to empower women.

Testing on the farm: Krishi Vigyan Kendra conducts the major problem of farmers through this. Agricultural scientists, tell farmers, which seed is excellent and which technique is best, comparative is given to space. Here the participation of farmers is a form of study.

Advance Line Demonstration: Through this, the center informs farmers about new technology which will reduce the cost of production to control pests and diseases, to increase yields and to reduce the labor of women, The use of agricultural implements and the latest technology equipment is reported.
