When new eateries open around the neighborhood - of course a foodie will check it out.
I've been eyeing out Koa Cafe since it started construction with a huge sign that said "coming soon." A few months later, I finally got to check it out.
The new breakfast cafe is located at 2700 South King Street, right next to Glazer's coffee and Bangkok Chef - which is under construction.
Parking is also very accessible, the Sushi King/post office lot or street parking along the stores on that block.
If the name Koa Pancake House rings a bell from hearing "Koa Cafe," it's because both breakfast restaurant chains are owned by the Chung family, according to Pacific Business News.
My father and I are both fans of Koa Pancake House and decided to give their other restaurant a try this past Labor Day weekend.
As you can see, lots of choices here. Also a great selection of vegetarian and gluten free dishes to choose from. It took a while to read and understand the menu because of the unique names and selection.
Seeing what other customers ordered, the Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) waffle had a huge portion - and for only $10 - sounds like a great deal. The butter mochi pancakes and guava lava mochi waffle were also common orders from that morning.
However, dad and I decided to stick to old school breakfast:
I ordered a corned beef hash croissant - substituted with cooked spinach instead of cheese with a side of salad. Sandwiches come with a side of either salad or potato, but I figured the croissant was enough carbs for the day.
Dad on the other hand, tried the Koa Madame, which has baked ham and melted cheese inside and an egg on top with dijon sauce as well as a side of potatoes.
Both were very filling and delicious. The flavors are what authentic breakfast foods should taste like - and best of all, both plates cost just under $20, minus drinks, but even then, a pretty good deal for such a big portion.
Another thing that caught my attention on the menu was the kalbi steak and eggs - definitely trying that one next time. But maybe a hike or an hour of gym would be a good idea before tackling that one.
Another Koa Cafe is expected to open in the Kapolei area by the end of the year.
