Awake and Alive!

This past weekend, I got the lovely opportunity to be part of the Mount’s “Knight Awakening II” retreat. I don’t really know where to start and there’s so much to talk about that I could easily write a book on everything I felt during it.

It started Friday as the few students from here hopped on a bus and kept homework behind them. When we arrived, we were split into 4 groups (4 families). We then put our phones in boxes for the weekend and ate our first supper together. Even though it was the first night, we were up late and had a few ice breaker activities that the staff set up for us to learn about the people around us. I enjoyed that knowing I would be here with them the whole weekend.

During the next two days, there was mass, prayer, singing, beautiful talks on different topics about God, family activities and whole group activities. After the talks, we would sit with our family group and discuss our thoughts on it, through this time I really got to know who I was sitting next to and we became close quickly. Swapping stories and sharing meals together was one of my favorite parts of the retreat. I love hearing where people come from and what they think.

I really can’t write anything good enough to explain how truly outstanding this retreat was. I came in begging to be rejuvenated and stronger in my faith-I came out with my heart dancing inside me. It was more than a pleasure to meet all the wonderful people there. I want to thank all the staff and people involved in making this happen, I wish I could express my gratefulness better but there’s nothing that can be enough so I will keep saying thank you.

To everyone- you all are the spinning image of what He desires us all to be. Your hearts are worth much more than any amount of gold and your souls are a beautiful rarity like diamonds. May peace forever stay with you through the light and dark. God bless.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
