We live in a society where it is "cool" to be heartless. It is not frowned upon to be a player or have more than one significant other at the same time. We live in a world where we feel it is okay to hurt someone just because they hurt you. Wanting to treat people better than they treat you is almost unheard of and it is definitely not considered cool. I'm sure you've heard the saying, "Don't cross an ocean for someone who won't even cross a puddle for you," and that is the epitome of the society we are surrounded by.

I don't know if I've just been raised different or what, but I believe in going above and beyond for people, even if they don't do it for me. I strongly believe in crossing the ocean for the people who won't cross the puddle for me. I want the best for people even if they do not want the same for me. Growing up in a culture where this type of an attitude towards other people isn't cherished has been difficult. I have felt dumb and maybe a bit crazy for thinking this way in the past, but here lately, I've had the realization that I'm not the messed up one for wanting have this heart towards other, society is what is really messed up.

If there is one thing this world has taught me, it's to be kind anyway. If someone talks bad about you behind your back, be kind anyway. If someone cheats on you, be kind anyway. If someone walks out of your life for no reason, be kind anyway. If someone takes you for granted, be kind anyway. It is not "cool" to hurt someone just because they hurt you, it is not "cool" to be heartless, it is not "cool" to not be kind.

At the end of the day, you are bound to be hurt by someone you thought the world of. Instead of letting that change you, grow from it. Forgive people when they need forgiveness, love people when they feel unlovable and cross oceans for people who won't cross puddles for you. You will never regret being kind to someone, even if they are not kind to you. You will never feel bad about going all out for someone, even if they favor is not returned. We are humans and mistakes will be made, even by you, but it is important that when these mistakes happen, you are kind anyway. Understand that not everyone will have the same heart as you, and love people for the heart they do have.
