Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few months, then you will know that Kesha has been in an intense legal battle with her longtime music producer, Dr. Luke. For those of you who have been under a rock, Kesha took Dr. Luke to court due to her allegations that he has assaulted her both mentally and sexually. Due to this, she wants out of her eight album contract with Sony music and the producer. Things were looking pretty bleak on Kesha's side due to a judge denying her request to leave her contract behind, but the singer refused to give up hope.
During the first weekend of the popular music festival Coachella, Kesha shocked many festival goers when she appeared on stage during Zedd's, another music producer, set. She sang a rendition of his song "True Colors" and everyone fell in love with the song and her once more. People loved it so much that Zedd and Kesha both felt it warranted the release of an official single. So, on April 29, "True Colors" featuring Kesha was released and it went into the iTunes top 10 overnight.
The morning after the song was released, Kesha posted a picture on her Instagram with the caption, "I've never been so full of gratitude in my entire life. There are really no words my loves. You have fought for me for no reason and you have successfully changed my life. YOU have been there for me through a time I thought, at many different times, I couldn't live through. I couldn't fathom being on the other side. And here we are. Thanks to YOU. And every one of you. Please know that my gratitude is beyond words and I will remember this til the day I die."
In case you may not know, Kesha's contract and legal battle is currently not allowing her to release new music, but Zedd and Dr. Luke himself said the song was released with the permission of Sony. Kesha has stated she doesn't mind staying at Sony just as long as she isn't forced to record with Dr. Luke anymore. This is proof that that dream is slowly, but surely becoming a reality for the pop star. The glimmer of hope that Kesha will soon have her freedom just got a bit brighter with the release of this one song.
It is still unknown if the song will be an official single with radio play and a music video or not, but many are hoping it is, especially due to the fact that both Kesha and Zedd have posted many different videos and pictures about the song. However, this could all just be for promotion.
Only time will tell!
