Let me take you back, back to a time before an oompa loompa was running for president, before bathrooms were a debate topic, before Beyoncé dropped the hottest diss track (about her husband no less) of 2016. Yes, I'm talking about back to 2013 which was the last time you heard a new song by or featuring Kesha blasting out on the radio, it was a simpler more glittery time.
Then we were left in the dark, glitter-less, cold world for three whole years because Kesha had gone through horrific terrors of abuse at the hands of her producer Dr. Luke. Back in February, we all had high hopes that Kesha would be set free from her contract with Sony and would be rid of her abusers presence. The judge ruled that she would not be released from her contract and had to record six more albums with Sony, the pictures and videos of Kesha crying at court were heartbreaking. However, Sony did step up and state that she could record those albums with other producers.
Now imagine my surprise when I hear Kesha has returned to the studio for the first time in three years to team up with Zedd (I'm pretty sure he's an angel in disguise) to release a new version of his song True Colors. I was majorly excited to hear this song because I love any and everything that Kesha touches, and she did not disappoint. You can tell she's taken control back of not just her career, but her life and will not apologize for being herself and telling her story, with lyrics like: "No, no, no, no, I won’t apologize for the fire in my eyes. Let me show you my, my true colors. It ain’t your rainbow," and "I've escaped my capture and I have no master." This is a battle song, and Kesha is coming back fighting.
I can't wait to hear more new material from Kesha in the future. I know she'll continue to be the "Warrior" that she is and won't listen to whatever "Blah Blah Blah" that the haters say. It'll only be a matter of time before she's back to pulling up in a "Gold Trans Am" with all the "Crazy Kids" chanting "We R Who We R." Kesha enjoy your "Crazy Beautiful Life" and I wish you well in all your future endeavors.
