New Year's is just around the corner or if you are reading this after New Year's than it is already here! Every year during this time people make a resolution usually to do something better with their life. It is a great time to keep motivation and lose that extra 10 pounds or get that extra five minutes of sleep each night. I really love hearing everyone’s different resolutions; not to mention it’s a great conversation starter! I, however, also see a problem with making a resolution each year on New Year's.
Every year people make a resolution, they try to accomplish it. When they don’t, it really isn’t a problem because it can always be next year’s resolution. I know that I personally have never kept a resolution throughout the year and I believe this to be true for many people each year. In the end we just resolve to do it next year and it puts us into a vicious cycle of trying and failing.
I believe that we need to work adamantly to keep our resolutions, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that working hard alone can resolve the issue. I think that we need to continually work on resolutions and be making new ones all throughout the year. New Year's is a great reminder but in order to become better people we need to develop new resolutions all year long.
If we are making new resolutions all year long it keeps them fresh in our brains and so we can continue to strive for them. New Year's is great to have as a constant reminder but in order to truly develop into the people we want to be, we should work on resolutions year round by accomplishing them and making new ones each time we do.
This New Year’s I propose that we develop a resolution and keep it by constantly looking forward to the new things that we can change after we accomplish it. Keep on moving to new things after completing them. Remember that New Year’s is great for when you need to get a jump on something. We should strive to be better versions of ourselves all year and not just at the beginning of each year because we feel guilty for not accomplishing what we tried to do the previous year.
I say keep New Year’s as a day of remembrance that we can accomplishing things, we survived another year. That should be the reason we push on to accomplishing resolutions in the New Year, not because we feel guilty. We should also keep moving on to accomplish more, so that way when we look back next New Year’s we don’t see a list of failed attempts but a list of glorious triumphs and accomplishments. Have a great New Year’s and get out there and accomplish! Happy New Year Everyone!
