As you may know, April begins Friday. That's no April Fool's joke -- 2016 has flown by like no one ever expected. My freshman year of college is coming to a close and I haven't taken the time to slow down to think about it until now. All I'm focused on is raising my GPA and preparing for the finals that are going to be here before I know it. However, there has been one major distraction that has me putting off all of my work: the weather. There have been some absolutely gorgeous days, which have me wanting to be outside enjoying life rather than inside working on my papers and other copious amounts of schoolwork.
So, as spring rolls around, I am here to tell you to buckle yourselves down and don't spend hours outside in the beautiful weather instead of doing your work. From experience, I can tell you it is worth it in that moment when you're sitting in the sun and soaking up the vitamin D, but not when you're up until 3 AM trying to finish that lab report or essay due the next day. Also, unless you're a diligent worker, don't say that you're going to do your work outside. I tried it and there were just too many distractions.
As you're sitting in the library and happen to peer out the window, don't be too upset. Just remember finals are coming fast and you will be able to enjoy the warmth very soon. Until then, you need to get on top of your work and keep yourself motivated! The warm weather makes motivation fly out the window. That precious motivation leads to good work and a high GPA; without it, your grades won't reflect you in a good way.
Now, I'm not telling you to never set foot outside! Definitely dedicate a good amount of time to relax in the warmth, but not so much time that it interferes with your work. One way to keep yourself motivated during these times is to give yourself a reward after all your hard work, so don't avoid the outdoors completely.
Spring is a fantastic time, but you need to tell yourself that spending time outside can wait. Finals are coming faster than you know and after them you can freely enjoy the beautiful weather. Until then, you have to remember to do your work in a timely manner or you will kick yourself for not doing so. All the hard work will pay off in the end! So after your finals you can feel great about how you did and enjoy the weather. It's not that far away. You can do this!
