Keep an Eye on Your Loved Ones This Holiday Season

With all the excitement of the holidays coming up, it's easy to forget that the holidays aren't always great for everyone. Keep an eye out on your friends and family because some may not be feeling as happy and festive.

Keep an Eye on Your Loved Ones This Holiday Season

In This Article:

Here are five things to keep in mind with the upcoming holiday season!

Not everyone has a loving and supportive family to celebrate the holidays with

Every family is complex and some more than others. With this in mind, make sure you keep an eye out for your friends throughout the holiday season. Some people may be feeling very left out and alone, especially with Thanksgiving coming up- so be there for those around you when you can!

I'm throwing a friendsgiving this year for my friends, so that even if they aren't going home (or maybe they are but don't have a great family life) for Thanksgiving, they'll have a night where they feel loved, accepted and super well fed!

Weather changes affect seasonal depression

Many people deal with seasonal depression, myself included. With the changing weather and darker days, it's hard to stay positive and see the brighter side.

Even people that do not deal with seasonal depression have their darker days; the winter can be brutal! Some winters it feels like the cold bleak weather will never end and it gets harder and harder to get out of bed in the mornings.

Watch out for your friends and family because while some people may not ask for help, they may show severe changes in their behavior which may be a sign that something is off!

Family can be overwhelming

While the holidays might be entirely magical and fun for some people, for others it can be very mentally and emotionally draining. It can be hard when you're in this situation to watch everyone else be happy with their family and winter break plans, so make sure to check in on your friends and see that they're doing okay.

You don't need to give gifts or spend a lot of money to show your loved ones you care

The concept of gifts is always difficult, whether it be in relation to money or the degree of the relationship(s).

Keep in mind you don't need to spend a lot, or any, money to make someone feel special when giving a gift. Sometimes it's the hand made things or adventures that a person really wants anyways, so don't feel pressured to follow the stereotypical idea of a holiday gift.

Remember to remind those you care about that you're thereĀ

Especially around the holidays, friends or family that are feeling down may be reluctant to ask for a helping hand. Everyone else may seem happy and festive, so it can be harder than usual to open up.

In whatever way that works for you, remind those around you that you care and that you're there. Not only around the holidays, but always.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ā€˜wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ā€˜Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
